 पाती ना आईल पिया के नगर से,
 टूटल बा आसनी दिन हर पहर से।

 (No letter came from my beloved in the town,
 Each hour worn down my expectation.)

 अँखिया के बाती झरता नज़र से,
 भींजल बा चिट्ठी बिना इक ख़बर से।

 (The wick of my eyes weeps with desperation,
 Drenched are the pages with no word to spare.)

 लउकत नइखन हम अबके सहर से,
पग पग पे डर बा पिया के सफर से।

 (This city no longer seems mine to tread,
 Each step shakes under his path ahead.)

 भिजवले ना कांवर भले गंगाजल से,
भर गइल मन त असर बा मगर से।

 (He didn’t send holy water from the fair,
 But my soul is drenched in his absent care.)


 अभि के छुअन ना रहल अब कदर से,
टूट गइल रेशमिया डोर जिगर से।

 (Abhi’s touch no longer holds its grace, The silk strand broke from the seat of my heart.)
