It's a biblical story that I have recently come across. Once, God tired of how wholly sinful and evil the people of earth had become decided to teach them a lesson. Angered at the corrupted thoughts of man, he declared, 'I shall destroy every living being on earth. Be it humans or animals.'

Then, Noah, a prophet sent by God as the first messenger to people when they began worshipping the wrong gods prayed to him. He found a useful favour from the Almighty since he was the most righteous person on earth. Along with his wives, sons and a handful of clean pairs of animals, he was granted a favour to remain hidden during the vast flood that God would impinge on the people of earth.

On God's instructions, Noah built an ark of gopherwood with room inside, three bedrooms and a door. He covered it, inside and outside with a pitch. Then, Noah, his family and the animals went into the ark after which God shut the door.

Water poured for forty days as the gates of heaven opened. No hill was spared as water climbed the highest mountain. The raging floodwaters destroyed the face of the earth. After the water receded in one hundred and fifty days, the ark come to rest in the mountains of Ararat. God remembered Noah.

Noah sent out a white dove in the hope of finding dry ground. It came back without anywhere to perch. Noah sent it back after seven days. This time it returned with an olive leaf in its beak and Noah realized that the ground was drying. Hence, then a white dove with an olive leaf symbolizes peace, serenity, calm and purity.
