The "Sengol" Symbolism

The "Sengol" Symbolism

The word "Sengol" has been in the news recently and will continue to be as long as it serves political purposes for all.

For all of us, the word "Sengol" (never heard us before) is a valuable piece of information worth knowing and digesting.

"Sengol" is a Tamil word that has existed since the Dravidian era, which means sceptre, mace, or simply staff (a long polished stick).

Sengol is supposed to represent authority and sovereignty, especially against the monarchy. In many parliamentary systems around the world, a ceremonial mace is used as a symbol of authority and democracy during parliamentary proceedings. The mace represents the authority of the legislature and is often placed in front of the speaker or presiding officer of the house.

Now, why should there be such a hue and cry over the installation of "Sengol" in the temple of democracy? Doesn't it represent the power of democracy? It was high time to have woken up and done the necessary, as monarchies in general and the British monarchy, in particular, were dismantled a long time ago.

The opposition is crying foul because history has been duly corrected, and a new history has been created by the honourable Prime Minister of India. Corrected history is indeed a created history, regardless of how one may want to perceive it.

It is high time that we, in general, and our lawmakers or politicians, in particular, stopped displaying a slave mentality towards the monarchy.

"Sengol" is indeed a symbol of the strength and power of democracy, which holds great importance in a world driven by technology.

Bottom Line of the story:

Sengol could be mere symbolism, but symbols have the ability to inspire, heal, and transform lives, providing guidance and clarity in times of uncertainty.

Each culture often imbues these objects with unique symbolism and significance, reflecting their respective beliefs and systems of governance.

I, for one, feel emboldened and inspired by this masterstroke of installing the "Sengol" in the new parliament, paving the way for a new and vibrant India!
