Have you ever visited India’s most ancient holy place Varanasi? If you haven’t been to the place yet, I strongly recommend you to visit with your family or friends. Why? Well, there are many reasons for that. But one of the biggest reasons is to see and relive the real ancient India that is somewhere lost due to the recent modernisation in cities.

This article is an account of my first visit to this holy city that filled my heart with spirituality, soulfulness, and provided me with a sense of ancient culture.

If you want to have tea, go for the special ‘Malai Tea.’ This strong yet tasteful tea will refresh your mind and mood in just a few minutes. Also, there are many colourful spices (masala), Bittel nuts, and many local dishes that will add to your overall experience.

I visited this place 2 years back. When I reached the city, I realised that it was an auspicious day in the Hindu religion. Brahmin people were taking a holy bath for the sake of their forefathers through ‘Tarpana’ by the blessings of the sacred Sun. They were holding some seeds in their hands, dictating some holy Mantras on the edge of Ganga. I came to know that this is called ‘Mahalaya’-the end of ‘Pitripakhha’ and the holy beginning of ‘Devipakhha’. I was told that this tradition and rituals were being followed by many generations for many decades.

Varanasi is the holy city in Uttar Pradesh (U.P), on the edge of the holy river Ganga. It is the place for Viswanath temple of Lord Shiva, and many more small and popular temples across the city. Varanasi gives a glimpse of millions of pilgrims to visit the place for good luck, prosperity, and happiness. People come here to pray to God, ask for something, or just express their gratitude to God for something special. They express their love and respect for Lord ‘Mahadev’, hence Shiva’s blessing has a holy penumbra for them.

 The Culture

The impact of ‘Rabdi’, ‘Parriah’, ‘Benarasi silk saree is carrying the same path as I had visited 12 years back never faded up. The dirty lanes, smelly trash of roads, littering of cow-dung and the busy crowded people and transports make a hazard of the place.

Though Varanasi has been a cultural centre of North India for several thousand years and is closely associated with the Ganga, the demodulation of Ganga Ghats, the dredging of Ganga action plans boost the depth and stout of water level.

Varanasi is cultured as an important industrial centre, famous for its muslin and silk fabrics, perfumes, ivory works, and sculpture. Among the estimated 23,000 temples in Varanasi, Kashi Viswanath temple of Shiva, the Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple, and the Durga Temple are some of the most notable ones.

Why Varanasi is famous Globally

The Banaras Silk sarees have placed the highest business in the international market for its rich quality and educational institutions like BHU (Banaras Hindu University) One of Asia's largest residential universities. The musical Centre like many prominent Indian philosophers, poets, writers, and musicians lived in the city, and it was the place where the Benares Gharana form of Hindustani classical music was elaborated. These two aspects are carrying the cultural potentialities of Varanasi. The other impact that I realized, in the evening, the essence of ‘Aarti’ in the edge of the Ganga using many mud Diyas, the various postures of the ‘Pandas’ by riding on the boats and creating the heart of focussing the magnificent light of the lively Ghats and millions of people including foreigners watch this event to make a frame of this holy moment.

Ashram's Life and Speciality

My memory at Ramakrishna Ashram was very charming. I used to get up at 6 and pluck flowers to dedicate God's feet. Then Morning bhajans and aarti started from 7 to 8 o'clock. After that many followers joined the function and the ashram's devotees distributed prasad to all. I had breakfast and then went sightseeing.

The scene was so mesmerizing to my heart that I had goosebumps on me. The brilliant lighting of the lively Ghats and millions of people gathered here, including foreigners watch this event to make a frame of this holy moment.

The Remarkable of Ganga

The spectacular journey of Varanasi mesmerized me the ecstasy, fun, and nostalgic feeling of especially Sarnath, Emperor Asoka’s reign, Godhulia, Benaras Hindu University (BHU), and every lane and it never got bored even if I visited several times.

One of the remarkable incidents that we never forgot in ‘Jay Baba Felunath’ directed and produced by our famous legendary personality Satyajit Ray, whose unique and versatile composition left us the mark in Bengali Cinema. The concept, theme, and plot of the movie were shooted in Varanasi and Kashi. Feluda the unique detective, Topsey, and Jatayu the famous writer-all these characters were the creativity of Satyajit (himself) and the storyline was just so authentic never happened before and won’t happen like this.

The entire shooting happened in every Ganga edge (Ghat) of Varanasi. ‘Dashashhamedh Ghat’, ‘Shandeswar Ghat’, and the main culprit of this movie was ‘Machli Baba’ who was a victim, tried to kill Feluda and another supporting role. And Feluda (Prodosh Mitra) caught him and handed over to Police. It is one of the famous places after a movie shoot of ‘Jay Baba Felunath’ in Varanasi. I also feel proud while visiting Kashi and Benarasthinking somehow nostalgic and breath-taking.

The ancient culture of Varanasi was quite authentic. I came to this place 12 years back, still, I felt the same memory that I had before. The taste of Rabdi, Peda, and Samosa gave me the same authentic touch. The magnificent Benarasi silk has its traditional outlook in the national and international markets.

If you are excited then we would like to see your excitement in the comments below. Get ready to be a part of this place. Plan meticulously your trip to Varanasi and pack your bag for the divine experience of Ganga Aarti and glimpses of Viswanath Temple. So book in advance to avoid the last-minute rush.
