Turning Out To Be A Career Guidance And Not A Scientist
As Madhu went downstairs, then near the entrance gate passing by the portico. She went down to see off her nephew. As the car drove off, she could see three little boys sitting on the concrete seat wall, after a tuition nearby. She stood by the gate, giving them a quiet glance with a smile and before she could ask anything, one of them stood there and asked her, "You are a scientist, right?" For a moment, she was speechless and then asked the boy, "What made you think so?" He just looked at her and said, "You look like one." Then Madhu asked him which class he was studying, and he said "seventh".
Madhu still wondered what made him say so and the word "Scientist" struck her again. In the meanwhile, her sister came up and she asked what the discussion was about. And when Madhu said that the little boy considers her a "Scientist," her sister in no time said, "Oh! Her hair made you think so," and the boy nods his head and says, "Yes."
No wonder Madhu took it as a compliment, the fact that the word "Scientist" and shoulder-length curly hair made her evening.
The three boys go to a tuition nearby and probably they had never seen Madhu earlier since the teacher who taught them had just moved to that place recently. So the boys were new to the locality.
The next day Madhu returned from shopping, she got out of the car and noticed the three boys sitting in the same place. Madhu went near them and asked the boys what they were doing. They said they had just completed their tuition and were playing a word game on the phone. Word games do improve word power. Madhu said if you are playing a word game, it's fine, else it's not a good idea to play games on the phone. Then she stopped and asked them what their favorite subjects were. One of them said Mathematics, another said Geography, and the third said Science. No doubt the third one had considered her to be a Scientist. Now Madhu asked him to name a scientist, and he answered Albert Einstein. She then asked him what made him take interest in science? He said it is an interesting subject.
She then asked him if he knew anything about speed. And he said speed is equal to the distance traveled in the total time interval. He then said the formula is speed is equal to distance divided by time. Well, that took Madhu back to school. She then told him even she had a liking for Physics during her higher school.
Madhu asked the boys their names and they said Atul, Sameer, and Rohan. Rohan was the one who talked with Madhu while the other two just listened.
They interacted quite often and these boys seemed to become friendly with Madhu. And they would sit and wait for Madhu to have a chit-chat with them, ask them questions, and they were able to answer the questions.
One day Madhu asked them how does a bird fly? And they said birds have wings hence they can fly just like an airplane has wings and therefore it can fly too. It was seen that gradually the boys took more interest in their studies and began discussing with each other after their class and came well-prepared. Tuition was a part of their curriculum studies. But they were seen taking more interest in the general knowledge of the subjects in a view to broadening their knowledge and more clarity towards the approach. They were guided by Madhu for a brief period which they took seriously and worked more on the practical aspect as well apart from the theoretical approach.
Time passed by, the three boys now appeared for their board examination. All three had done very well scoring above 90% marks. They were still taking guidance from Madhu from time to time and this time and they passed out of their 12th board as well and scored well. Then they took the engineering entrances and all three of them joined the reputed institution. Madhu was also happy with their achievements and she wished them well in their future endeavors.
Now, Atul and Sameer had younger sisters and they sent them to meet Madhu. The two girls came one day to Madhu and asked them to guide them in their studies. They are already doing well but they wanted her to guide as to what should they opt as a career in the future.
Madhu asked them to come over one day so that she can discuss with them and get to know their interest and their inclination towards a particular career. She put them certain questions and asked them to write down the answers and some questions that she asked them verbally. Both of them were in their 11th standards. The following year they were to take up either a career in medicine or engineering or continue in academics of science, arts, or commerce. While one of them was in the Arts already and the other in Science.
One of them, Anita, wanted to do economics after her 12th. She was already doing Arts so economics wasn't new to her.
The other girl, Seema, was doing science and she wasn't sure whether she should opt for engineering or Medical stream.
Both of them would come and sit with Madhu for some time and gain some knowledge from her. Madhu would guide them in their respective areas and how should they prepare thoroughly to achieve their goal. While Seema sought how to do her graduation in economics and then pursue a career Madhu proposed her to opt for MBA, take the entrance test since she had good communication and a leadership quality. And to Seema, She guided her to take the medical entrance and opt for a career in Medicine, since she had her mindset to serving humanity. Madhu by now has taken up Career Guidance as her profession. She guided both Anita and Seema to tain choosing up careers in MBA and Medicine.
