Sports as part of Education
Sports as part of Education
Lara has been an athlete since her childhood. Being a very lean and thin girl, no one expected her to play so well. And she would just take a flight in her race as she ran. She took part in almost all the activities like the 100m, 200m running race, Skipping race, lemon and spoon, while at the junior class. She was at the same time very good at studies too. And every year whenever the annual sports were declared, her preparations started. She would take part in the practice sessions after class or during the PT classes along with other participants.
She would give her best and when the event started she would begin full spirit to be at the top and she did!
Once on one occasion during the practice session she was disqualified but she didn't give up, she took another chance as she was given, considering her achievements. And to the surprise of the teachers and everyone she stood as the winner.
This school where she studied had annual sports in a larger scale every year. The sports ground was a huge one that all the events were organized very well. Finally the winners announced and they stood at the podium. Lara seemed to have reserved the first place for her in almost all the events she participated in. She won cups and medals.
Lara was astonished to find that the next school that she joined when her father got transferred to another place. There were no such annual sports. It was an all girls school. Though they played basketball, volleyball, badminton but no sports day. However, Lara studied just one year in that school and again she was back in the earlier school where sports used to be an annual event. Again she had to move on to another school because of a transfer of her father. And this time luckily this school also held the annual sports along with annual dramatics. She was in the higher school now and she participated in the events 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and 800m as well. While Lara stood first in the first three races and relay, she stood second in the 800m race and she was quite okay with it.
Gradually, as Lara moved further higher in her studies, in college she no longer took to athletics or sports. However, she took seriously to studies instead of sports. The time when importance was given to studies rather than sports. Sports were not considered being taken as a career unlike this age where there are opportunities for making sports a career. However, Lara accepted things as they came and she feels great seeing the medals and cups she had won in sports while at school.
No doubt sports should be a part of the education system as well. Because it is supposed to balance the mind and body.
In this age now, there are many avenues for the aspirants be it in academics, sports, music, art, environment, technology, space etc. One just needs to have the knack of it.
