The horse and its rider went ahead with full gallop. The rider was none other than Prince Vikramjit of the kingdom of Chandrapur. He was returning after a survey of his kingdom. Very soon he would become king as his father would abdicate his throne due to health reasons.

His father the great ruler Samarjit was respected far and wide for his able administrative skills. The king was very adventurous and brave. He had fought a tiger with bare hands and almost strangled it before it ran away into the jungle wilderness. Samarjit had inherited the throne of the Kingdom of Chandrapur when he was just a minor boy of ten years. His father, King Amarjit was killed in battle trying to wade off invaders, a bunch of thugs. Then Samarjit was coronated under the tutelage of his prime minister Nayanjoti. Samarjit learned the intricacies of ruling a kingdom under the able guidance of Nayanjoti.

Samarjit was dynamic and enterprising. Also he was brave and learnt the skill of self-defense and use of weaponry at a very young age from his defense minister Bhimchander. He became so deft in archery that he could target his prey just hearing the sound emanated from it, like in modern radar system.

Samarjit was an able administrator very far ahead of his time. He set up a revenue and tax collection system not seen or heard then. He was well aided by his brilliant finance minister Arthkant. The future Rulers of his kingdom and other kingdoms like his followed it as it was very efficient and egalitarian. No peasant was exploited during his reign. He set up a very advanced agricultural economy with efficient irrigation system with dynamic crop pattern and good marketing techniques. During his reign all the barns in the kingdom were full with harvested grain.

So in times of adverse weather condition like drought and floods, no citizen of the kingdom went without food. Samarjit and his finance minister Arthkant developed the banking system of the kingdom and gave it

a futuristic look . Previously a rudimentary system was prevalent. There always would be a group of visiting economists of other regions trying to learn and emulate it for their own areas.

Samarjit, knew that to increase his kingdom boundaries, he had to build good relationship with neighbouring Rulers and try to forge strong relationship with them through matrimonial alliances.

He won his future bride and queen through the tricks he learnt of bow and arrow. His neighboring kingdom Hariharpur had organised a archery competition. A dummy fish was hung from the ceiling of a big hall. Below the fish, a wheel of a chariot was fixed. At the bottom a bowl of water was kept and by it's side a bow and arrow was placed. An archer had to take aim at the hanging fish by looking at it's reflection in the water below. The archer who first shot down the fish would win the princess as his bride. Beyond doubt it was Samarjit who could accomplish this daunting task.

Then Samarjit was married to Princess Aishwarya in a gala ceremony where both the kingdoms Chandrapur and Hariharpur took part. The citizens of both kingdoms celebrated the grand wedding of King Samarjit and Queen Aishwarya. The kingdom of Hariharpur was annexed to the kingdom of Chandrapur as dowry. No life was lost and there was no bloodshed and the two kingdoms got united. People of both kingdoms rejoiced.

It was not always a pleasant journey though. Although Hariharpur was united with Chandrapur, there was a section of the administration of Hariharpur under the leadership of Kanchan a noble, who would not take hands down this unity. He had a band of well trained horsemen who got their act together and revolted against Samarjit. They first captured the armoury so they could get a control of the ammunition.

Samarjit, knew he had to act quickly otherwise the revolt would spread to all the levels of the population. He devised a plan. He sent an invitation to Kanchan, the rebellion leader to sit face to face and come to the negotiating table. Kanchan accepted the invitation and gave the upper hand to Samarjit which he had devised. While Kanchan was busy at the negotiating table, Samarjit's men under instructions went and rounded up Kanchan's men. These men were taken hostage.

The hostages were given offers of cash and kind which they fell for and withdrew from their positions. The armoury was freed. This news was conveyed to Kanchan and compelled him to react vehemently but to no avail. However, Samarjit was generous in victory and offered Kanchan the post of his defense advisor which he accepted. This step taken by Samarjit was highly appreciated by the general public. This act of his was looked upon as his far sightedness and magnanimity of heart. Samarjit 's reputation as an able administrator was permanently established.

The kingdom consolidated it's position under the rule of Vikramjit for a secure future. For many more years the kingdom was ruled by Vikramjit after his ascension and then by his descendants.
