City Light & Country Breeze
City Light & Country Breeze
Oh God! This Damn traffic, it becomes really irritating at times. Oh! Hi! This Ishita Chowksey from Dehradun, well, you might be thinking if I am from Dehradun then why the hell I am stuck in the middle of the Mumbai traffic. Well, to be honest I really didn’t wanted to but as you all know Mumbai is known as “Sapno ki Nagri(city of dreams)”…Aur Agar Sapne purei karnei hoo toh Mumbai toh anna padhega(and if you want to fulfill your dreams, then you have to come to Mumbai now or then)! I am a working professional here in Mumbai fulfilling my desire of working in my dream company, rather must say giving my blood and sweat to achieve some good and permanent position, but at times I really feel to just get back and settle down in my hometown, at least I will get some fresh air to breath out. Don’t you feel the same? No, I mean look at the situation here…once you leave from your home or office you will get traffic jam on the way, then by chance your car stopped moving all of a sudden for some moments people around you will start honking around. Really people here are very restless and impatient, and once any how you get into your home after the tiring schedule of your office you will definitely face some or few problems like the children of your neighbors will be enjoying their games, making you feel irritated. At times looking up to them I really feel they are enjoying their life now, simply a worry and stress free life. Finally, I got my leave application granted and all set to leave tomorrow for my hometown. Ahh! Whenever I have a thought of my hometown I really remember those gentle breeze with the smooth sound of the waterfall, those fun of tracking with your brother/sister and friends. Well, but people who are living there from ages at times feels or I must say have a thought of shifting to the bigger city like Mumbai, because they feels bigger city have much more facilities which can be get availed within a fraction of seconds. Umm…I won’t say it is their mistake or misunderstanding about the fact, because earlier I also used to feel the same, but now I can understand the value of roots. You, see now – a – days people are more focused on how can we earn much more money, because that is the only source of getting happiness and comforts around. You might be saying, yes that’s true nothing can be brought without money, but guys…at times don’t you feel can money really buys you everything you want? Can money able to buy you the love and cherishing moments among your friends and family? Can money buys you “Sukh Chain ki neend(worry free sleep)”? I don’t know whether you have heard one proverb or not but most of the people from my hometown used to say this whenever they used to notice any kind of changes in the person who visit their hometown often from any bigger cities, “Sheron ka Paani aur Gaon ki Hawa aapei jaldi asar karti hai (City’s water and Village’s air affects you very fast)”. People there thinks bigger city have much better education system whereas people living in the cities thinks the education quality is much better in small towns or villages and this is not only for education purpose but also for the job opportunities, because in bigger cities people feel getting a employed to some bigger company equals to permanent source of income, but when they feel that earning is not upto their expectations then they feel small town people are much happier as they have their own business and people in small town people thinks that employed ones are much happier as they have constant source of income whereas they have to face the consequences of profits and losses. At times you will feel there is lots of insecurity, kind of low self-esteem, negative aura revolving around you with lots and lots of confusion. I still remember once me, my brother and few of our friends were having discussion rather I must say debate on this topic, and they too have the same perception that the people living in the bigger city are living their life with full of lavishness and all those stuffs, but to earn this lavish lifestyle we have to work out with full blood and sweat for day and night. I am not saying that people who lives in small town or say village do not put their effort or works hard to earn, rather yes I do agree they work definitely harder than us, the only difference is that they got less facilities of say electricity and all whereas bigger city can make this thing avail much faster. The amount of blood and sweat or hard work is same but the only difference is they work on the soaring sunlight, whereas in the bigger city we get the facility of getting worked under expensive air conditioners. Forget about this difference, just focus on the small difference which we all usually face in our student life. In small town or village area if a girl/boy secure some good position or grade in their academic career their parents start expecting that at least he/she will able to go to the bigger city and able to get into some handsome salaried job or your will see them chanting every day or night “Mera Beta/Meri Beti pei mujhe garavh hai, dekhna ek din sab ussko pehchanegei (my son/daughter had made me proud one day she everybody will know her)”. Whereas in bigger city it is all about competing, it’s all about gossiping about and sometimes I will say demotivating their own child with their behavior. Seriously, I don’t know whether you had hear it or not whenever you came across some parents they will be gossiping like, “ Do you know…Mr. Sharma’s Son had secured so and so marks….and look at my son, if he manage to secure passing marks at least that is also a big achievement.” However, I will say boys are bit luckier in this education side because no matter what or how much old they got, they got the privilege to continue with their education, whereas parents of most of the girls start planning about their marriage and settlement. This is that side of the society which is similar in both the case be it city or be it small town or village. You know what, most of the people living in small town sometimes feel ashamed or shy to be in the bigger city, because they feels that they are not that advance handed with the technology although now – a – days this difference is narrowing, but few years back if they had to talk or convey certain message to their near and dear ones, they had walk to the STD. booths and talk using that telephones, well that is also a kind of source of income at that time. Umm… at times my brother used to tell me, Didi, people in the big town or city are much aware of many things like technologies, educational aspects, opportunities and all but the people in small town or village are not aware of these things that much, I don’t believe to this though because I deeply believe they are also aware of many things which are important according to them. Other than these basic differences, I spot one more difference among both is about the family value and cultures. People in small town or villages are more focused to their family value and cultures (Parampara aur Sanskar). Umm…Yes, if you check or ask on for the main and kind of important difference then according to me I will say the cost of living and mental health. Yes, I believe it is kind of big difference in cost of living. Whatever things (General things like groceries and all) you purchase here in city with damn good cost, you will able to get those thing in almost half the price, yes but if you wish to get those lavish things then it is near the same. And the mental health, I believe people in small town or village is much happier and stress free then people in big town or city. Small town people can find happiness and peace in little things, whereas to earn happiness in bigger town or cities you have to face anxiety, stress and depression. Umm.. I believe this is some kind of human psychology, which really not make people to live happily or satisfied with what they have with them and start expecting or desiring some bigger or more for themselves ultimately making them unhappy, which is called Inferiority complex in terms of psychology or you can see a kind of greed working within them which is called greed syndrome. Well, that’s what my side of the story showing the difference between Big and Small town/city/village, I assume that most of us have the same thoughts on the facts, still I am eager to hear your side of the story and the facts which can add on to this with your valuable thoughts for the same. Till then hoping that, I didn’t made you bored aff see you again with some new topic again soon.
