Pey Alwar is otherwise known as Mahayogi. He was also, just like Bhootadh Alwar, contemporary with Poigai Alwar, meaning he belonged to 4203 BCE. He was born in Mylapore, Chennai. Also, after the unique experience at Thirukoilur storm night, he composed 100 poems known as 'Mundram (3rd) Thiruvanthadi.' He is the first and foremost devotee who saw Lakshmi in the first look on that stormy night. That's why he started his first hymn with the sentence, "Thiru kanden," which means, "I saw Lakshmi." The next thing that drew his attention is the golden body of The Lord on which Thiru is seated in a state of eternal togetherness. Then he saw the color of Perumal. He saw the fiery disc in one hand ready to spring and strike in the war. In his other beautiful hand, he saw the curved conch.

In his 49th poem, Pey Alwar says, "You killed unconciliatory Hiranya. You got the big Earth from Mahabali. Again, you took a bold stand against the charging bulls to take the hand of Nappinnai. Oh, holder of the dextral conch!" (English translation by Sri Rajagopalan)

In poem 52, Pey Alwar explains Ramavathar beautifully: As Sri Rama, he made seven trees fall down with one arrow; He struck down the evil imaginary deer with one arrow to fulfill the wish of Sita; With a rain of arrows, he made Southern Lanka's King fall down. Then he conquered all three worlds from Mahabali as a dwarf Brahmin boy.

In this way, Pey Alwar showed his immense love towards God Vishnu throughout all 100 poems in Mundram Thiruvandati.
