The Gaming Day

Like how the sun shined brightly in the morning, I woke up with a bright face, what’s for today; thoughts whirled in my mind. I went to the storeroom and searched for anything interesting and found a chessboard and coins, it was nearly two years since I last played chess, so I decided to play chess.

“Who will be my opponent?”

“I can’t play with friends due to lockdown”

“Who?” as I was thinking a bright idea came to me, ‘my dad’

I went upstairs and found him sitting on the couch, watching online videos on the phone,

“Dad”

“Yes, Honey”

“Shall we play Chess?”

“Right now”

“Yes dad and I’m challenging you”

“Challenging me, okay I’m in”

“Game on”

I placed the chessboard on the table and took the white coins, dad took the black ones, and we began to set them up.

“Okay, everything set, ready” my dad happily asked me

“Ready”

And we started the game. I started the first move, followed by my dad. The game was interesting; my dad took my first coin bishop by his knight,

“Getting nervous” he sarcastically asked me,

“A little bit”

My dad was an excellent chess player, he was the one who taught me to play chess, and I had beaten him only once, so I need to beat him today. As the game proceeded, I took his rook, knight and some pawns. We both were serious, I first made a check but he survived, later the game was on the pitch. I took his most powerful coin the Queen

“No way” he was surprised

“Are you giving up dad?”

“Nope, you’re really good; I never expected such a move”

“I learned it from you”

Laughing we proceeded to the final pitch of the game, he checked me, I blocked it with my rook, then as we moved on,

“Bow, bow” my doggie Linda came and she sat with us, watching

At the last step, I made the perfect move,

“Checkmate!” I shouted in joy,

My dad was surprised and was happy for me,

“Excellent dear, you have improved a lot” he wished me,

I embraced him; I was delighted as I won.

“Shall we begin a second game?” Dad asked me

“Yes dad, I’m ready”

And we began to assemble the coins, and my queen was missing,

“Dad, did you see my queen?”

“It must be here somewhere”

We both checked but it missed, I was amused, then it struck me,

“Dad, where is Linda? She was here”

“She went down the stairs”

“Hmm, I know the culprit”

I went down the stairs and went to my doggy’s room; she was hiding something under her bed,

“You, black sheep”

“yip, yip” she sounded shy,

I searched under her bed and found my queen, I laughed at her, this wasn’t the first time she steals and hid things

“You won’t change” I patted her,

“Did you find it?” Dad was standing near the doorway,

“Yes, Dad”

“So, Shall we start?”

“Of course” I went taking Linda with me, we played and again I won.

“So I’m the Campion” I yelled in joy,

“You’re dear” Dad was very happy

“Bow, bow” Linda sounded in delight.

“Can we start the third one?” I asked him before he could reply,

“Play after dinner, okay” my mom intruded,

“Okay mom, under your command” I smiled and we went for dinner.

The gaming day was really fun and I learned skills in chess, the day ended with a sense of victory.
