A Marvelous Sunday

A Marvelous Sunday

I hate Sundays. Now don’t get me wrong, I only hate Sundays because it means I have to wake up early for church. I woke up, unexcited for church. On the other hand, my younger brother Matty, was on cloud nine because on Sundays he’d get to treat on some cake. We usually don’t give him sweets because he gets hyperactive with too much sugar. I had almost finished dressing up when my mom called out for me. She yelled loudly, “Sarah are you ready yet?”. I groaned and answered back, “Yes mom almost done”. I grabbed my cellphone and shoved it inside the pocket of my jeans and headed downstairs to have some breakfast. My mom had made pancakes. I only had two of them because I wanted to have appetite for Olivia’s cupcake stall today at the church.

Olivia is my best-friend, and she’s always doing charity stalls at the church and school. She’s probably the most caring and energetic person I’ve ever met. We’ve been best-friends for 3 years now. We first met at our new Middle school. Trust me, our introduction wasn’t something straight out of a movie, rather it was really awkward. She had setup a lemonade charity stall at the soccer game. Matty wanted to get a lemonade so I took him to Olivia’s stall. While we were waiting for the lemonade, he stealthily ate up all the sugar from the bowl for extra sugar. He became hyperactive and spilled three glasses of lemonade on me. I was furious and ready to scold Matty. Olivia told me to calm down and said that he was just a kid. After that incident, we started talking at school and did a couple of projects together. So that’s how Olivia and I became friends.

We had reached the church and as I got out of the car, I hadn’t noticed there was a puddle right beneath me. I stepped in it and my new shoes got all dirty and muddy. It was a really bad start to the day. After we were finished with the church, we headed towards the backside of the church for Olivia’s stall. Olivia’s cupcakes are always sold out really quick. They’re really delicious. I’ve tried making cupcakes many times, but its always either rock solid or really soggy. As expected, she was sold out within an hour, which isn’t anything compared to how quick it is sold out during sports events at our school.

Olivia and I had made a plan for a movie after church. My dad dropped us off at the theater and said he’d come back after 3 hours. That meant we had plenty of time to watch a movie, shop, and even hit the arcade. I’ve been wanting to go the arcade for ages, because I wanted to show Olivia how good I was getting at Donkey Kong. I didn’t know how to play Donkey Kong until Olivia taught me. She always laughed at me for not being good at it. But over the summer, I had spent a lot of time on the game at had gotten really good at it. I couldn’t hang out with Olivia during the summer because she went to her grandparent’s house in London. When she came back, she was speaking in the British accent and it was really hard not to laugh. She let go of the accent pretty quick though.

The movie we were watching wasn’t really interesting to me, but I got through it. After that we went shopping at the nearby stores, but all we bought was a necklace and some bubble gum. Then we hit the arcade and it was way better than watching that stupid movie. We also did the Dance Revolution this time, and I got the highest points. I could tell Olivia wasn’t happy with it when she left the arcade without me. She gets upset pretty quick when someone is better at something than her. This one time, there was a presentation which counted for 10% of our annual grade. I put a lot of effort in the presentation and got the highest grade in our class. Olivia wasn’t happy and she refused to hang out with me for a whole week. Other than being unhappy for others and being super dramatic, she’s alright. She’s actually the most decent friend I’ve had in ages.

After playing at the arcade, we got really hungry so went to a nearby café. I was feeling classy so I ordered a coffee and a croissant. Olivia couldn’t decide what she wanted so she ordered the same things as me. We talked about how the homework teachers give us doesn’t make any sense. When our orders finally came, Olivia revealed a shocking news to me. She told me she was going to have a little sister! I was so happy on hearing this because till now she had been an only child in her family and now she would know what a pain it is to have a younger sibling. I asked her why she hadn’t told me sooner. She said she’d gotten to recently too. It didn’t make any sense to me why she didn’t know sooner but I didn’t say anything. I told her all about having a younger sibling. She seemed really happy to know all the tricks I told her.

Our three hours of time had finished, and my dad had come to pick us up. He dropped Olivia at her house and then we headed back to our house. It was a really fun day even though it was a Sunday and my shoes were spoiled.
