JUMBO AND MOTU

Once upon a time, there lived an elephant named Jumbo in a forest. As it is a human-free forest, all the animals and birds were living so happily and there would not be any sound of gunshots.

Jumbo had an ant friend named Murphy. Murphy would be always busy in gathering food. He was so active.

Jumbo was so kind and friendly with all. So, all the animals and birds loved her. As Jumbo was the oldest animal in the forest, the other animals would get advice from her.

One day, Motu, the crow came to Jumbo. She looked so dull and glum.

So, Jumbo asked Motu, “What happened to you, Motu, why are you looking very sad?”

Motu replied, “Everybody is criticising about my colour and appearance.

Jumbo consoled Motu and said, “Hey, Motu, don’t worry about what others say. You are doing a very good job in this forest. You are cleaning the forest and protecting us from diseases”.

Motu listened keenly what Jumbo said about her.

Then, Jumbo gave an example to Motu from our epic ‘The Ramayana’.

In Ramayana, while Lord Rama was constructing Sethu Bridge, many monkeys helped him. Some small creatures also wished to do some help from their part to Lord Rama.

So, a squirrel came with pebbles that it could carry. But monkeys threw them away. The Squirrel felt very sad.

On seeing this, Lord Rama called the monkeys and said that “Even a very small deed by somebody at the time of emergency is very important. Nobody should be undervalued by their appearance”.

Now, the squirrel felt very happy and thanked Lord Rama.

Jumbo said, “Motu, do you understand the importance of this story? In God’s creation, everybody is unique. Nobody should be undervalued. God has created us with a purpose. God wants you to teach the habit of sharing among humans. Because, you are sharing whatever you get by calling your friends. So, he has chosen you for that purpose. Be happy, Motu”. Jumbo went away.

Murphy also advised Motu, “See, I’m the smallest creature in the earth. I have never worried about my appearance and feel very proud to be the most active creature in this earth”.

Murphy said, “Our purpose of living is more important than our appearance”. In God’s creation, all are beautiful. “Everybody is unique”.

Now, Motu thanked Jumbo and Murphy for giving her encouragement and making her realise her own importance on this Earth. Motu flew away merrily with a heart of satisfaction.
