“Shhh…silence... My dear students,” said Vani Miss.

Class 6 is known for their pranks. Even though they are pranksters, they are good at extracurricular activities. They participate enthusiastically in all the competitions. Mrs. Vani is their class teacher and encourages everyone who performs well in sports.

As she was an NCC Cadet during her college days, she expected perfection in everything among her students too. If students heard her whistle, they would go in a line.

Mrs. Vani is a Physical Education cum History teacher. Though she is strict with her students, she loves them secretly. She never shows it to them. She remembers and calls all her children by their names. So, she is loved by all the children in the school.

Mrs. Vani got married 10 years ago. She underwent many treatments for a child. But it was a failure for her. She didn’t curse God for that as others do. She believed that good things would happen at the right time.

Lunchtime, Vani teacher was walking on the playground with her colleagues. Then, she saw Blessy who was studying in 7th std, sitting idle on a stone bench and crying. Vani's teacher went and asked her the reason. Blessy narrated her story.

“Ma’am, I am coming from the nearby. My parents are daily workers. I have two younger brothers. They are studying in primary classes in our school. We won’t get food unless our parents go to work daily.

Today morning, my parents were getting ready to go to work. At that time, few Police officers came home, arrested my father without any reason. We went to the station. There, they filed a fake case of robbery on him and locked him up in the prison.

My friends were teasing me as ‘Prisoner’s daughter’. I felt ashamed. I couldn’t voice out the truth.”

Vani teacher sympathizes and consoles her. She gives her food to Blessy and her brothers.

Sometimes the situation makes a person behave badly. We are under the control of external things.

We are prisoners of our situations.
