Indian society is a religion dominated society. There are many religions and each one preaches its own faith and ideology. Be it prayers or yoga, they make for an important part of the curriculum. They are necessary guiding principles of morality as it involves consensus and agreement between groups of students. Giving due Respect to religious sentiments, children must learn to coexist and move towards an inclusive religious environment first.
It is an exceptionally good thing that the SPPU (Pune University) has introduced yoga as an extra subject for engineering students to overcome stress and curb rising instances of suicide. The CBSE has also made yoga an integral part of the curriculum. Schools and colleges must explore the many physical benefits of yoga as it helps access an inner strength that allows facing overwhelming fears, frustrations, and challenges of everyday life.
