In her office, deep within the bowels of the Louvre, Diana Prince also known as Wonder Woman, read the latest news reports. 8 months had passed and the world was no closer to a solution to the violent pandemic that was ripping through it. A miniscule virus resided in the lungs of a person, slowly cutting off his ability to breathe and then damaging all the other organs leading to the person’s death. She watched as all the countries reported a large number of deaths in the second wave of the deadly pandemic. One scientist had claimed that the virus had been mutated in a lab and had been released on to the unsuspecting public. Seeing the death and destruction it had caused, with seemingly no input from the creator, Diana Prince believed what the scientist said to be true. She also knew now, through different clues that she had collected, that Ares was the person responsible for this large scale devastation.

Ares was the Greek God of War who represented the violent aspect of war. A thirst for blood and brutality were his main traits. Many centuries ago, Ares had become jealous of humanity and had seeked to destroy the world. He had killed all the Gods who had tried to stop him and injured his father, Zeus. But Zeus with his mighty strength had managed to stop Ares and forced him to retreat. He had lain quiet for many years, till he had made his presence felt in the last century by wreaking havoc with the World Wars. The wars had been characteristic of Ares’ bloodlust with countries being ripped apart by guns, bombs and other weapons of mass destruction. Diana Prince had come from Themyscira to stop Ares and in her avatar as Wonder Woman, defeated Ares in a fierce battle. He had retreated again to lick his wounds. Though the current Pandemic showed no sign of bloody battles, the end result was the same. It was a war being waged on people by an invisible enemy and no matter how much the world had progressed with medical advances, the scientists were no closer to finding a vaccine for the debilitating disease.

Diana's first call had been to the scientist who had made the claims, about 5 months after the Pandemic started. Her veracity had been questioned by many world leaders and she had also been warned with a threat to her life by some people. When Diana approached her she had been very reluctant to speak up. Diana had then employed her secret weapon, the Lasso of truth. As she had wrapped the Lasso of truth around the hapless scientist, the truth had come tumbling out. A very rich person who kept himself anonymous had opened a top secret facility in which the virus had been created. A person who worked as a janitor at the lab, had been infected with the virus without his knowledge. He had gone to the local carnival that evening and very soon a large group of people started showing symptoms of coughing and breathlessness. Then the scientist came to the most disturbing part of her disclosure. The virus which was wrecking the world was a very mild strain and so the recovery rate was higher than the mortality rate. What the rich person actually wanted was a strain for which it would be impossible to find a cure. Death from lung collapse would follow just a few days after infection. The scientist also told Diana that the strain was now ready and had been taken to an undisclosed location to start infecting people .

Diana knew she had to act soon. Using the Lasso of truth on a few more key people had revealed to her that the new strain had been taken to a bustling city in one of the developed countries. 30 people who would be travelling to different countries had been chosen and they would be infected with the new strain in the guise of it being a vaccine. Diana got to know where the new lab was located and immediately made her way there.

By the time, she had fibbed her way into the lab, the people had been injected with the new virus strain and were at this minute on a plane which was about to take off. Diana knew that she had to stop the plane from taking off before the people went to different corners of the world and caused widespread deaths. As she reached the tarmac of the airport, the plane was on the runway, readying for takeoff. As it put on the final burst of speed, Diana wrapped her lasso around the plane's fuselage and pulled with all her might, bringing the plane to a grinding halt. Suddenly her lasso snapped into two and Diana was thrown to the ground. She was shocked, as her lasso was unbreakable. She watched as a figure wearing black armour with a spiked helmet descended on top of the plane. It was Ares. In a minute the plane seemed to be revving its engines again.

Diana held on to the half of the Lasso that she was holding in her hand and started spinning it over her head. As the lasso spun in golden circles, it started moving the air around it like a tornado and blew dust into the air. Ares had to shield his eyes and could not counter Diana. The sky darkened and the wind howled as it moved around Diana. The wind blew with such force that it slowly started turning the plane around. By the time, Diana had slowed down her lasso and the wind speed had reduced, the plane had turned and was now pointing away from the runway with its wheels stuck in the mud. Diana heaved a sigh of relief. At least the plane would not take off. Ares who’s vision had cleared, shot out a ball of flame from his hands. Diana held her hands in front of her face and her indestructible bracelets reflected the beam and shot it back at Ares, throwing him off the plane. Ares stood up and started gathering all the metal objects around him and shot them towards Diana. Diana once again crossed her hands in front of her face and when the objects were almost near her, threw her hands out and scattered them all around. Finally Ares lifted his hands and invoked the lightning from the sky. The cracking lighting started sparking on his fingertips. He gathered it into a ball and with all his might, threw it at Diana. Diana held up her hands. Her bracelets started sparking and crackling as they absorbed the lightning. Her being filled with power and she rose up into the sky. With a loud cry to Zeus , who blessed her with his thunderbolt, she directed all the gathered energy towards Ares. The lightning cut a straight beam to Ares heart, electrifying him, burning him out completely, till all that remained was a pile of ashes, which soon scattered in the breeze.

Diana fell to her knees and thanked the Gods above. As soon as she saw the passengers disembark from the plane, she immediately informed the authorities who took them into quarantine and intensive testing. Diana, as Wonder woman had saved the day, but she hoped with all her being that a vaccine would be found soon to end the pandemic and save the world.
