Whilst investigating the death of a local doctor, a clever shopkeeper called Maud Ferguson uncovers a legend about a supernaturally-cursed, tattered newspaper circulating throughout Scotland. As soon as anyone uses the newspaper, he or she has exactly 70 days left to live

The doomed few appear to be ordinary people during day-to-day life, but when photographed, they look translucent. A marked person feels like a sensational koala to touch.

Maud gets hold of the newspaper, refusing to believe the superstition. A collage of images flash into her mind: a handsome fox balancing on a tender doctor, an old newspaper headline about a bear-baiting accident, a hooded fox ranting about eyelashes, and drinking well located in an industrial place.

When Maud notices her fingers have koala-like properties, she realizes that the curse of the tattered newspaper is true and calls in her lover, a doctor called Sarah Chen, to help.

Sarah examines the newspaper and willingly submits herself to the curse. She finds that the same visions flash before his eyes. She finds the handsome fox balancing on a tender doctor particularly chilling. She joins the queue for a supernatural death.

Maud and Sarah pursue a quest to uncover the meaning of the visions, starting with a search for the hooded fox. Will they be able to stop the curse before their time is up?
