Reading is an Art

Reading is an Art

Reading is an art. It demands peace, tranquillity, patience off course and interest to know and learn everything about the book from the pin to an elephant (including ‘others’ by the author).

It demands a special location, a niche, exclusively for this activity itself, maybe a bright corner in your hall where the sun’s rays like to rest and the winds like to swirl in grace and you just find it perfect to daydream without any meddlings. A mug of hot/cold coffee (as you like it and as the mood dictates) that you would like to slurp over a thrilling verse can also be added to this niche.

Choose a window that does not lead you to other opposite windows, obviously, I do not want my neighbours to witness or spy over my eyebrow-dances when the author reveals one secret after another but also adds up a suspicion time over again and then babble the truth followed by a diverting reason, infusing my brain with a sense of intrigue and my body with an eerie feeling and my gasping breathe as I find an answer in the ninth chapter to a question that I had in the second chapter, also as I almost get ready to onlook the climax.

You could even choose a quiet congenial edge in your garden where the greenery just adds to the perfection and when you are at last made aware by the author that favourable things are on their way so that the breeze can assist the leaves of your favourite plant to caress you and calm you down, because reading, is an intense art.

Yes, reading is an art but unfortunately, not all are artists! Because one crucial thing that reading a book demands is your unwavering presence accompanied with your naive dare to get completely and honestly lost, and lose track of all the times and then, the intelligence of finding yourself in the brown of the book and all the colours and their shades of the story.

And finally, that intimate moment when you clench your desk tight or just lean against the wall with a soul that feels renewed and reborn and hold the book so close to your ribs and release a sigh into the universe, almost embracing its end but also being thankful for having read it and experienced it, is how the book gets its salvation and indeed a genuine reward to the author. This intimate moment is the purest feeling of all!

Get it? Reading is an art.
