New Beginning

The last few weeks of 2022 took her back down memory lane. A smile lit up across her now wrinkled face. The years had surely robbed her of her youth now a dried looking old weary woman stared back at her n the mirror.

She thought of the loved ones whom the journey of life ended few months back. Many stories she heard of sickness claiming lives but those dearest to her heart had a different story. They were the lot where sacrifice was the game they played. Survival of the fittest would be my term for them. They were the ones that laid down their lives for others to reap the benefits of their sweat.

These were lives that only a few of such people today live in this cruel world. A cup of coffee and a packet of biscuit was their daily meal. When sickness came by it robbed them of their lives and never did, they see another sunrise.

I speak of them for they were my family. They died of hunger and only a few of us knew their cause of death. So was the case for Jayne who now at 56 wanders around in her three-bedroom house alone. She still works to make ends meet for her children.

The new year has a lot she needs to work on as a mother to her children and her students in the classroom. It will be a much tougher year and she is well prepared psychologically. But it's another lonely year. She's not too bothered about it but wonders if she will meet new friends or stay stuck to her children and her job.

Nevertheless, it's 2023, she's ready for another adventure with her students in the classroom and a family reunion at the end of the year to meet up with her loved ones and her dad on the island of love a paradise in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Another year a better journey but will be ready for anything. She will let her past rest and her loved ones. She is ready to let go as well of the pain that has kept her a prisoner in her mind. A new beginning a new chapter of her life she is about to write.
