A Rewind to the 90s era!!

I am a 90s person! Born in a city, brought up in the 90s. This era had its charm & aura.

Old is a gold-famous saying and each one of us is familiar with it very well in our ways !!

I always wonder why is always older days are better than present days. Old songs, old films, old silk sarees, old vessels still seem to be of high and best qualities. Old teachers were worth, old furniture is still appealing, old houses are much more friendly and airy, old all India radio is much more entertaining and old games that taught us to play together. Old wine is still the best and old friendships were more trustworthy.

The nostalgia the 90s brings to us is heart touching. The world was different, the aura was different. People used to found satisfaction and joy in simpler things.

As now we are two decades past the bygone era, here’s a throwback list that will take me to my 90s

Nowadays we are struggling between infinite channels and still can’t find anything interesting to watch on TV -

Well, 90s was damn easy. Only 2 channels and full of shows for all ages. I remember watching “Chandrakanta” or Mahabharat on Sunday’s and all streets were used to empty. And of course those colourful rainbow 🌈 lines on the TV during the break before any show telecasts. It clearly said - “Rukawat ke liye khed hai”

The huge Antenna on every rooftop - This is how this fight was conducted: a person on the terrace slowly turned antennae in every direction imaginable, while one person in front of the TV shouted instructions: “aa Gaya; arre Nahi Thoda left le”.Sometime in the mid-90s, we were our cable operators.

Our lives were not ruled by iPads, laptops and smartphones. Our playtime was not spent in front of PlayStations or Xbox. Instead, the summer holidays meant playing games such as hopscotch.

Did nobody think of Thailand or Dubai or Switzerland? Instead, we went to visit relatives during the summers. Shimla and Manali used to be the height of thinking big in terms of destination and a Goa trip would have sufficed for five summers. Instead, a visit to mamaji’s or buaji’s house in Punjab or Nagpur was what we got.

An immense love for reading I had for my unlimited comic books. Luckily I still have them. The bundle of Chacha Chaudhary, Billu, Pinki comics were talks of the town.

Love for us was the most innocent and hardcore romantic feeling. Be it a school crush or college’s love at first sight. We collected posters, stickers and postcards of our favourite stars, secretly maintained a diary and asked our friends to fill our slam books. Love was defined by the big heart on the door and regular visits to the Archies Gallery before Valentine’s Day.

Bet it my first Walkman or recording those empty cassettes with favourites songs were the feeling of being in love with self. No distractions, no depressions.

The older we get the more memories we gather, but the things which we have experienced in our childhood and teenage hold a very special place in our heart and stays there forever!
