Unsolicited Advice- “ Please, No Thanks”!!!
It’s among the few other many things you’ve no control over at all. “Unwanted advice”. On the chase between proving our worth, fulfilling our dreams and meanwhile maintaining the sanctity at our own home, we have to deal with some people who are experts in our lives.
Be it a working mother who often is a juggler between home & career responsibilities or a stay at home Mum who is always forced to prove her worth to society as they say doing nothing at home. Be it one who is struggling to lose weight or who crossed their marriage-age limit because of blah blah reason.
We are tired of all this uninvited advice coming on our way, doesn’t matter the stage of life we are on, we are surrounded by people offering their never-ending wisdom:-
How to get a fair complexion
How to or not to behave
Best age to get married,
Suitable time to plan the kids,
Good time to conceive
Whether you should join office back or not,
We will be judged based on the decision we take in all the above phases.
You can’t wear sleeveless in your brother in law’s wedding
You have to wear ample jewelry as you are badi bahu of the house
Don’t wear a too bright color, it’s doesn’t go well with your skin tone
Oh it’s time you should get waxed & pedicure
Be it peeping out Bra strap or short top & jeans,
these bits of advice are thrown at us anywhere & everywhere
Their pieces of advice and these advisors often come with a safety mask that “We’re saying this for your good, otherwise we have no business with you.
In a culture that believes that ‘the elders know best, it is easy to disguise judgment and misogyny as a sympathetic concern. There is an underlying implication that we women do not know what’s best for us, and society must take up the responsibility of educating us about ourselves.
Please people we don't need the uninvited advice ( at less not until asked) as these do make us feel uncomfortable & self-conscious.
Let us learn the way life teaches us!
