Our 76th Independence Day!

By now we should have been a clean and green India,

Free of litter and dirt on every nook and corner of our streets,

Even if we cut down trees to widen our roads or for the metro,

We can plant an equal number so that we remain green!

There should have been no poor or homeless ones,

Who need to beg for a living as there are not enough jobs around,

Each and every person is as important as the other,

So wealth need not be in the hands of only a mighty few, I feel!

We need pavements on every road for the pedestrians’ safety,

And important to have cycling tracks for the cyclists,

No potholes on the roads for the safe ride on our two-wheelers,

All ugly cables that are old and tangled to be removed instantly!

Not that we don’t have money for all these important things,

We have enough and more of it, but lack the willingness to improve,

The right people have to work towards a better and brighter India,

Blame games by any party, politicians or anyone, won’t do any good!

We can all do our bit and strive to improve in every way we can,

Say no to corruption and communalism, be polite and courteous, help one another,

When in power be humble and helpful to lift up the downtrodden,

This way we can be a nation with all happy people around all being equal!

These are not complaints, but these are places we need to improve,

Areas to improve may differ from place to place, according to our regions,

As ours is a vast country and we know best what and where we lack,

We should work on such areas to improve and give India the glory it deserves!
