Michael, known to everyone as Mike, was 11 years old and the middle child in his family. His sister Millie was older, and his brother Milo was younger — but Mike always found himself in the middle of the action.

That morning, the three siblings sat together at the big wooden table in their villa, eating pancakes with syrup and laughing so hard that even their parrot flapped its wings, chirping as if it wanted to join in. The poor bird tried again and again to talk, but only made funny noises.

Dad was inside the living room, adjusting his tie in front of the mirror like he was preparing for a big mission. Mum was nearby in the kitchen, packing breakfast boxes with flash speed.

“Pass the syrup, Milo!” Mike said.
“Too late, I finished it!” Milo said, his mouth sticky with syrup.

Millie laughed, “You two are hopeless. I’m the pancake champion!”

Just then , Spike and Sprinkle (Mike's friends) walked in, both looking mischievous. Spike held up a boba cup and said, “Hey Mike, recognize this?” Sprinkle added, “We found your boba before you did!”

Mike blinked. “Wait… you mean you two had it all along?”

Spike laughed, “We couldn’t wait. It looked too good to leave behind.”
Sprinkle nodded, “Don’t worry, we saved it for you.”

Mike shook his head. “You guys are worse than my brother and sister!” But then he laughed too, because the whole morning had turned into one big comedy show.

Mike shook his head. “You guys are worse than my brother and sister!” But then he laughed too, because the whole morning had turned into one big fun show . Suddenly dad screamed "You’re all going to be late for school!”

Everyone froze while chewing. Mum handed out the packed boxes, Dad tightened his tie, and the three kids stuffed the last bites into their mouths. The parrot chirped loudly, almost as if it was saying, “Go, go, go!”

And so began the fastest Disappearing Boba Race to school in history.

That evening, the family sat together again — Mum, Dad, Mike, Millie, Milo, and even Spike and Sprinkle who had stayed over. This time there were no pancakes or boba tricks. On the table sat a steaming pot roast with beans.

Dad finally relaxed without his tie, Mum smiled after a long day, and the kids dug in happily. Spike and Sprinkle joked about stealing Mike’s fork, Milo pretended to smash the beans, and Millie teased everyone about being “slow eaters.” The parrot chirped again, trying to copy their laughter but only making funky sounds. Mike raised his fork and said, “At least nobody’s stealing my dinner tonight!”

Everyone laughed, and the parrot chirped like it agreed.
