                                   Chap 1.

'Wake up 'Bekah, it's a beautiful day!' Joe, Rebekah's brother, yelled at the top of his voice.

The dark-haired girl groaned loudly. Every day her annoying and bratty little brother would wake her up with some cringey, optimistic lines that made her throw up inside her mouth.

'For god's sake Joe, stop doing that!' she exclaimed, sitting up to face him.

Joe offered her a toothy grin. 'You're gonna be late for school, sis,' he patted her cheek, causing her to roll her eyes.

'I'm not in the mood,' she mumbled.

Joe dragged her out of the bed. Each and every day, same scene. It was not new to him.

'You still have to drop me!'

Rebekah's expression softened. 'Mum and dad not home?'

Joe sighed loudly. 'Mum's with grandma and dad is… well, you know, drunk,' his voice dropped to a frantic whisper.

Rebekah would've almost laughed at him if she hadn't understood the seriousness of the situation. But she understood, she understood it very well. Sometimes, the green-eyed girl felt angry and guilty that her nine-year-old brother had to go through this hell every day.

She squeezed Joe's shoulder, and he managed a weak smile in return. Even though he was a drama student, he couldn't fool his sister, and she knew very well that he was fighting tears.

'Joe, there's no use in sulking now, you have to accept the fact that they don't give a damn about us,' she whispered.

A tear fell from his eye, and it broke her heart.

Rebekah knew the feeling. After all, she had spent countless nights crying in her bed.

Taking a deep breath, Joe pressed his lips together and went to take a bath, leaving the dark-haired girl all alone in her room.

Rebekah connected her iPods to her phone and jammed to Taylor Swift as she copied the lesson off the board.

Her favorite song came on and she smiled slightly, softly singing along.

'Hey look! Rogers can smile!' the boy next to her exclaimed, and the whole class laughed. Rebekah rolled her eyes, cursing the boy beside her. She hadn't bothered to remember his name.

'I would smile a lot more if you learn to shut your goddamn mouth,' she muttered to herself.

After school, she went to the grocery shop nearby and bought some milk and a new box of cereal. With her mom not home, she had to take care of the house all by herself. At first, it felt enticing, but then it all turned into a nightmare.

Every day waking up with a gazillion tasks to do, dealing with a drunk and abusive father, she was tired, tired of everything. Sometimes she wondered why she should fight anymore.

'Excuse me?' a voice brought her into reality.

She whirled around, only to be met by sparkling brown eyes.

'What?' she snapped, raising her eyebrows.

The girl held up her hands in defense, 'Whoa, okay. I'm sorry, you're just getting in my way.'

Rebekah rolled her eyes and stepped aside when she felt her phone buzz.

 It was her dad.

She swallowed, feeling her heart beat loudly against her chest. With shaking hands, she quickly pressed the decline button and put the mobile back. .

'Uhm- are you okay?' the girl asked, a concerned look on her face.

'Oh my god, can't people just learn to mind their own business?!' Rebekah snarled, furrowing her brows.

The girl didn't seem fazed, and surprisingly, she didn't bite back.

'Look, I don't know who you are and I honestly don't care, but like maybe you should go and see a therapist. You seem mentally disturbed,' and with that, she was gone, leaving a dumbfounded Rebekah behind.

A/N: Weellllllll, that sucked.
