Love Interrupted

She paused reflectively at the door,

Pondering wistfully on the years gone by;

A life well spent with excitement galore,

She had many conventions defy!

In love with herself she forever had been,

School and college had been a breeze;

Boys had always lapped at her feet,

And she had without fail the moment seized.

Marriage, of course had happened at her will,

Happiness and sorrow had then unfailingly hide and seeked;

But the love for self that was so instilled,

Had her laugh even at the picture most bleak!

Presently at the cusp of her silver sixties,

Priorities she wanted to change a bit;

'Live for self' though just a thought in her fifties,

Now the conviction refused to quit!

The liaison that had begun some forty years back,

Was not forgotten in spite of the road travelled so far;

An interrupted affair for which they had taken so much flak,

 Unfinished  business it was, with her heart forever scarred!

Love at first sight,though a cliché had worked its magic,

Dashing and handsome he had captured her heart,

Inter caste faith had turned their story so very tragic

Prejudiced world and jaundiced views had made them part!

She still looked for him and so wanted to backtrack,

As was her want, she had to retrace their love to not remain just a memoir;

They both needed today to cut each other some slack,

And get together again before the final Au revoir!
