LOVE RECLAIMED

Oh, who could have thought,

That this too could happen?

A chance meeting with my past that I never sought,

Would make my heart flutter and giddily gladden?

An unfinished story began to unfold,

Of long-forgotten days, when in school-

We exchanged furtive glances; the stolen chances, and a longing-

To hold each other and to break all the rules!

Years in between flashed before our eyes,

His eyes mirrored mine, the love still shining bright-

But regret, and a suspicion of a little anger on the rise?

Eyes accusing, questioning my betrayal, and walking out of his sight!

Now, four decades later, there we were,

Facing each other, amazed and gaping in surprise!

A life spent apart flashed by as if in a blur;

Realization dawning slowly of simmering love and unbroken ties!

Unspoken words and thoughts spilled free,

Remorse and lament gathering speed,

Neither of us had seen this coming or could ever foresee,

That the pull and attraction will even today leave us weak-kneed!

God sure has his ways and only he knew why,

He got us back together without us even trying anyhow,

And today, not even a day goes by,

When we are not together, even if it's only in our thoughts and vows!
