MY FOREVER

I close my eyes and I see you everywhere,

You and your smile permeate my very being and the surrounding air,

Our love lingers about with every breath I take,

Thinking of you, my heart with the loss aches.

Your loving words still ring in my ears,

Your tender love fills my heart with cheer,

You, my soldier husband, romantic to the core,

Had always left me wanting more!

But then, life happens, when least expected, as they say!

And in a stroke, it filled my world with shades of grey!

The bright sunlight was eclipsed forever,

And the joy in living escaped despite my endeavors!

'He is missing' the telegram said.

The words blurring as I read and re-read!

You were MIA and yet to be found,

I had slumped on the floor without a sound!

These passing years have yet not dulled the pain,

Though I try not to walk down that memory lane.

And even today whenever I close my eyes,

Your smiling visage, waving me goodbye, startlingly crystallize!
