This Time of Year

This time of year, I can't help but think about you and miss you just the same. Recently, I remembered our first Christmas tree, and the way you would decorate it every night when you came home from work.

My husband and I didn't have a whole lot of anything the first Christmas we spent together, but he was working and did afford us our only tree. We didn't even have any of your standard lights, bulbs, tinsel, or anything like that to put on the tree. There were just candy canes during the day, but at night when Jeremy came home, he would remove his hardhat, safety vest, gloves and boots. And, just before he would jump in the shower, his "uniform" from work was placed on the tree. The safety vest went around the tree, the gloves were put on either side, the hardhat was the "star", and his work boots were placed under it as the gifts.
