The Immortal King

Once upon a time, there was a small boy, named Mangu. He used to live in a small village in a great kingdom. He wanted to be the king. His parents were poor farmers and had no acquaintance with the royal family. The stories of power and lifestyle of the kings used to allure him. Over time, his fascination with being a king became a madness. He was ready to do anything to fulfill his desire. He was an ardent follower of Lord Shiva too.

His austerely and constant prayer resulted in God's shiva appear before him. He bent down on his knees and bowed to him.

“ What do you want my boy.?” Lord Shiva asked him

“ I want to be a king, “ Said the boy.

“ I will not make you the king, instead I will send you to the ashram of two sages and they will reach you how to be a king. Ask any other boon ?”

The boy thought for a moment and asked the boon that he thought would make him the king.

“ NO ONE IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE CAN KILL ME;”

“ As you wish. Tthastu” God gave him the blessings.

“ I want to ask one more thing.” The boy got greedy and this made God angry and so he cursed him.

“You will not be able to see any sage twice and you will not be able to understand their teachings” God disappeared after saying this.

Not for a single moment, his heart transmitted fear because he thought he is immortal now.

He tried to enter directly the King’s court but the guard stopped him. He said to the guard “ I am the new king because I am immortal.” The guard thrashed him thinking that he might be another drunken fool and said since you are immortal, you will be rotten in jail forever if you try to come here again. The thought frightened him and went directly to the Sages’ ashram.

He went to the first sage and described his entire story. From the words of the sage, he understood “Your first impression is the last impression. Appearance matters. Fake it till you make it.”

He returned to his place and started giving out money, ornaments or whatever was kept in his house. People started praising him for his generosity on his face. But it did not last long. He ran out of money. People again deserted him. He thought due to the curse, he must have misunderstood the preaching of sage. He must have said, “Be who you are. Truth always finds a way of coming out. Don’t fake it till you make it”. This time he acted in his true self and showed his true color of the poor and miserable boy who was trying to be a king. People still did not like him.

He then went to the second sage and understood from his teaching, “Don’t take the easy way out”. He went to his place and started working very hard and earned a lot of money. After years, when he had enough money, he thought of creating his own army but someone plundered his money and he got devasted by this. All his hard work went in vain.

Again, he thought he might have misunderstood. He must have said this, If there is an easy option available, the only fool will take the hard way. So take the easy way out.

Now, he conspired to poison the king but his plan was revealed. The king ordered to put him to jail forever. In jail, he realized his mistakes. He prayed to Lord Shiva again and after praying him for a long year, lord Shiva appeared in front of him. He asked forgiveness and asked him to take his boon back. God forgave him and magically released him from the jail and said, “Don’t try to be the king, instead start doing what kings do. They take care of the interests of the kingdom. So, wherever you are and whatever you have, start helping and protecting the people around you and they will start calling you the king.

Never ever try to be anything. If you want to be a writer, write stories, people will call you a writer. Similarly, if you want to be a doctor start curing the diseases, people will call you the doctor. You want to be an engineer, start applying the scientific theories into practice. Start imparting education to the learners and people will call you teacher. I think you got the point. Don’t try to pursue any tittle, start doing wherever you are with whatever you have. There is no magic.

From the next day he started helping people in his capacity and slowly more people started to come to his advice and slowly his name was famous in the entire village and people gradually think of him as a person who will take care of them and elected him as their king.
