SEARCHING

I had been searching for Sillas for almost an entire day. I finally gave up and sat down on a rock. I wondered if Sillas had wandered away himself or been taken away by some other creature. I wandered back to my hole in the wall and crept in. I filled a cup with water and gulped it eagerly refilling it multiple times. I yawned and stretched lying down, getting ready to sleep when I heard a bark. I started and bolted up right. I went to the small entrance and looked around. There was a little light in the distance shining brightly. I cautiously walked forward toward the light.

I kept walking until I was too tired to continue. I squinted, trying to see the cause of the light. I couldn't make out the source. I kept walking trying to make out the source. The light became brighter and bigger until finally it was so big it took up my entire field of vision. I took another step forward and almost fell into a cavern. I blinked a few times and what I saw took my breath away.

It was a cavern filled with spikes on the sides. In the middle there was a brightly shining sphere. It was too bright for me to look at it properly. I looked down at my feet. There was a steep slope that ended in some water. I gulped hoping the water was not too deep. I slid down the mud slope faster than I had imagined. I stopped just as I reached the water. I got up and cautiously put my toe in the water. Holding one of the spikes, I put my foot in deeper.

Thankfully, the water reached only to my ankles. I walked toward the sphere fascinated by its light. I stretched out my hand just as I heard another bark. It broke me out of my reverie. I pulled back my hand remembering that Sillas was still lost. I turned toward the direction in which the bark had come. It had come from a small gap in the spikes. I looked back at the sphere of light and then at the hole through which I had entered. I turned back to find a huge beetle almost bigger than me facing me through the gap between the spikes. It was black in color with pincers next to its mouth. I froze in terror.  It made a strange clicking sound that petrified me. I slowly backed away from it trying not to make it rush. When I was far enough away, I turned and began to sprint. I pulled myself over the mud slope to find the beetle catching up. I ran even faster, heading toward my hole.

When I reached it, I entered and grabbed my spear. I turned round to see the beetle bearing up on me. I stabbed my spear upward trying to kill it, but it was too fast for me. It lunged to the side and avoided my spear. I quickly got to my feet and held my spear in a fighting position. The creature had become more careful since he realized that I had a means to defend myself. I took deep breaths knowing I could die because of this creature, which looked like it had come from hell. It crouched down getting ready to spring. Moments before it jumped, I stabbed my spear toward it and impaled it right through the eye. A greasy black substance pored all around me turning the floor black. I groped backwards already half covered in goo. I got back up and pulled out my spear. The creature fell lifelessly onto the floor. I stood there panting wondering how Sillas was still alive in a place that could be filled with these creatures. I stood up, grabbed my hammer, and headed back to the spike cave. I slid down the mud slope.

I stood in front of the gap in the spikes looking in trying to find whatever was inside. I gulped, took a deep breath, and went in.

I instantly regretted my choice. I needed an army for this.

The whole room was covered with beetles and huge black-eyed spiders creeping all over the cavern walls. I stood there staring in shock. There was a creeping sound behind me, and I spun around to find a huge spider blocking the entrance. All the creatures turned to face me. There was a bark to the right side of the cavern. I looked to see Sillas in a hole with a kind of chain covering over the entrance. I wondered who had made his jail. I didn't have too much time to wonder as almost a second later a pincer almost impaled me. I raised my spear in one hand and my brother's hammer in the other. I turned to face the beetle that had attacked me. I stabbed at it, but it dodged. I brought my hammer down on its head and smashed it against the ground. I looked at all the monstrous creatures running toward me.

"Well, this is going to be a bit of a problem," I muttered.
