CHAPTER THREE: I THINK IT'S A GHOST

Jonathan, Snowball and Angela, were standing outside Jason's house. Angela was scared of going inside because of the incident that occurred.

After thirty five minutes of waiting, Jason walked out. But Angela didn't see him walk out because she was facing in the direction of Mrs Johnson’s house. When Angela turned her head to Jason's house, he saw him outside. She then walked to him as if she wanted an autograph. She anticipated the good news.

“Well, I am allowed to spend only one night at Mrs. Johnson's house,” He said with hands folded.

“That's fine. One night is all I need,” Angela replied with a smile on her face. Her heart was at peace.

Later, Angela and Jason walked inside Mrs. Johnson's house. Angela left Jonathan in the livingroom playing with Snowball as they went in each and every room checking for any strange things. Angela looked at Jason, she noticed that he wasn't scared. She figured that maybe it was because Jason had no idea how it feels to see his name on a paper without knowing who wrote it. They walked, checking the rooms thoroughly while holding hands. After walking through each room, Jason concluded that “Nothing strange is here.” They walked back into the livingroom and sat on the sofa.

When it was time for dinner, Angela said that she wouldn't step into the kitchen because of what happened earlier that morning. Jason said, “I will cook dinner then.” He prepared rice with smoked beef. And for Snowball, he prepared simple dog biscuits. He served the food in the dining room, called them, and instructed them to start eating.

Angela was eating slowly. She was not herself. She couldn't forget what happened that morning. It was like someone was watching her every move. Although she ate and chewed the food, she was not doing it voluntarily because her mind was somewhere else. When her mind connected with her body, she began observing what was happening around her. She could see Jonathan and Jason eating. She saw the dog wagging its tail in excitement as it ate its food near the window.

Angela decided to pop up a conversation, she said Jason, “Tell me a bit about yourself.”

“Well, what can I say? I’m Jason Williams,” he replied.

“Tell me more. What do you do?” Angela insisted.

Jason replied, “Actually, I never get to do much. It's a lonely life.”

Angela quickly asked, “And, this house, don't you think it's too big?”

“I agree with you. It's quite big,” Jason agreed.

After they all finished eating, Angela suggested that they go to bed. She also pointed out that it would be pointless to stay awake in a scary and weird house. Jason said he would sleep in the living room down stairs. Angela agreed.

    “Good night, Jason.”

“Good night, Angela.” They each went to their respective sleeping areas. Angela got Jonathan and rushed upstairs while Jason went to switch off the lights that were on. He then prepared himself and slept on the sofa.

It was now midnight, the shadows were being cast on the walls of the mansion. There was a gentle breeze outside the mansion, but apparently, it was not gentle for Angela. She woke up in fear and switched on the lights. Soon after switching on the bedroom light, she started hearing sounds coming from the bathroom. Then she suddenly heard someone calling her name: "Angela..."

Angela was very scared. She couldn't move a muscle. It was like a rope was tied to her that made her immobile. After some time, Angela started moving her body. She wanted to go to sleep but someone kept calling her name: "Angela..." She decided to go and check who was calling her. She took three big breaths, opened the bedroom door quietly and walked out.

When she turned to the bathroom door, she saw that the bathroom light was on. She also heard the shower pouring heavily as if someone was taking a shower. Angela thought that Jason was taking a bath. But she was wrong. She tried calling Jason hoping to hear him answer from the bathroom.

    “Jason! Jason! Jason!” she yelled.

The shower stopped pouring and they were footsteps coming from inside the bathroom. Angela thought Jason was walking towards the door to open it. Every footstep she heard was louder than the last. This was evidence to Angela that someone was indeed in the bathroom and was walking towards the door to open it.

    “Yes Angela, you called me?"

Angela heard Jason's voice but it wasn’t coming from the bathroom. She was puzzled. She asked aloud, "Where are you?"

    Jason replied, "Here I am."

The voice was coming behind her. She turned slowly and carefully. She saw Jason in pajamas. He looked drowsy and sleepy. Angela quickly turned around to the bathroom door, the light was no longer on. There were no footsteps coming from the bathroom. Her legs started shaking, her heart started racing, her stomach felt empty. She looked back at Jason.

“Jason please say that you were in the bathroom. Please...,” Angela pleaded.

“No, I wasn't in the bathroom,” he took three steps towards her and asked, “Why would I take a bath at this time?”

“So you mean that you were not in the bathroom?” She strangely asked Jason while taking steps towards him.

“I wasn't. As you can see I am coming from the living room,” he said while pointing at the stairs. After Jason replied, Angela feinted.
