My mother and I ran through the tunnels making sure not to make too much noise by rattling the weapons that we were carrying. My Mother carried a spear and a few stones tied to thick ropes that we had fashioned from cutting at a tree bark with knives. I carried two hunting knives and a sword that we had found.

As we ran, I thought of what we were doing. The three of us, including Sillas, were going against an entire tribe with almost a hundred people. We also did not know if Lorin would be there with his slimy monster.

After some time of walking quickly and silently, my mother stopped. I signaled to her with my eyebrows asking her what had happened. She shook her head and indicated a passage on our left. I nodded and we moved into the passage. There was a rope ladder that led to a moldy wooden trap door. My mother slowly kept her weapons down and climbed the ladder. She then raised the trapdoor and looked out. She looked back at me with a mystified expression. I signaled to her asking her what had happened.

“He has not come yet,” she whispered. I was confused. Sillas was faster than us. I had spent half an hour pointing in the direction he needed to go, and I was convinced that he must have understood something.

“Maybe he is on the way,” I whispered back.

Suddenly we heard shouts far away. My mother peeped back up the hole, her face was white. She looked back at me. A huge roar rent the forest.

“He is here,” she whispered. “However, he is not here in the way you imagined.”

She looked back up. “They have captured him and placed him in a net.”
