Shefali was married to Karan. Theirs was a love marriage. Although they both belong to different religions, different beliefs, different customs, different cultures, different cities, everything was different in them except one thing- their passion for writing. There was some writing competition held in the state. After several tiers, one winner was to be finalized. They both were so good that the final round resulted in a tie. This was the first time when they actually got to know each other. Karan was literally captivated by her beauty, she was mesmerized by his talent. She didn't expect that a guy like him, would beat her in the competition. Karan was overwhelmed and Shefali was upset when they got the results. Soon, they become pen friends. Shefali was a Roman Catholic and medical student. Her mother was a single mother to her and her brother. Karan belongs to a typical Hindu family and was studying arts. He had a big joint family. Slowly, slowly, their pen friendship resulted in love. Love is beautiful, it is even more beautiful when you love a writer. Initially, they were successful in hiding their love. But, there is a saying in Hindi, " Ishq aur mushq chhupaye nhi chhupta." Soon, Karan's family came to know about it. It was a huge issue for a conservative, middle-class family. He was forced to leave his love because love marriage was not acceptable in their culture. When they came to know about her religion, caste, being her non-vegetarian, their anger knew no bound. But, he was adamant at his decision of marrying her only. On the other side, Shefali's mom supported her. She had no problem with Karan or his family or his religion. He faced a lot of obstacles in his way to marry her but was finally successful. Their marriage happened twice- once according to Hindu rituals and once according to Christian rituals. Even his family created a huge scene during that Christian wedding - particularly because of that white dress and kiss. After a long way filled with obstacles, there love life finally saw a smooth way of married life. But their happiness couldn't last long. Within two months of marriage, Shefali and his family rejected each other. Both of them couldn't adjust to each other. Shefali was not ready to leave her career and passion whereas family was not accepting a working daughter-in-law. Karan somehow managed the situation. But, Shefali was slowly drifting towards depression. Suddenly, one day, she found that she was pregnant. Her happiness knew no bound. She was on cloud nine. Even the family got a reason to be happy. But here again, the same issue came in between. Shefali's favourite fruit was papaya. As per the believes, papaya is not good for a pregnant lady as it may harm the foetus. Everyone tried hard to stop her from eating papaya but Shefali's logics always overpower the beliefs. In the 3rd month, her health started deteriorating. The doctor told that it's all because of that depression. She needs proper treatment. In the fifth month, Shefali had a miscarriage. Everyone was shattered. The family was held responsible for it, according to Shefali and according to family, Shefali was herself responsible for it...Because she ate papaya. When Shefali could not cope up with this loss... She committed suicide. After losing her...Karan was broken. He was lost... He also tried to kill himself but her writings encouraged him and he decided to live for Shefali. Shefali already knew that she won't be able to live much...Because of that depression. But, that developing life became her strength. When she lost it...She was moving towards death. So she penned a letter every day, addressing Karan, and motivating him...And it was because of those letters, Karan lived.
