Blood

Blood

We were not having any type of blood relation-neither a mother-daughter duo nor a bond of sisters. We didn't even know about each other's existence. Still, we were connected by blood. We shared a bond of love.

Blood- When heard for the first time, some might think of blood relations, some may coin it with an accident or maybe menstrual blood.

I am a 29-year-old woman, raised in a small town of Punjab and settled in Delhi. I am doing what I always wanted to do. I have my NGO to help the needy.

One fine day, I was in the hospital when a sudden demand for AB- blood arose. It was some accident case. Being from the medical line, I knew it very well it is the rarest blood group having very fewer donors. Luckily, I am one of those who have this blood group. I approached the doctor for the opportunity. After being all the necessary tests done, I was found perfectly compatible and I was shifted to the ward immediately. I was praying to God to save that patient's life. I stayed in the hospital itself. The patient was saved.

I asked the doctor about the patient. He gave me her file.

Her name was Sakshi. She was 4 months pregnant. But her baby couldn't be saved. I felt pity for her. She was still unconscious. I just felt somebody had taken a precious thing away from me. I couldn't bear that pain. I was unable to predict how would she react when she would come to know about it. I was empathetic to her because she had lost her baby, I had lost my mom.

Meanwhile, I took some rest. I was lost in Sakshi's thoughts only when I came to know that her husband has arrived. He was out of town and that accident took place. He met his wife. She was still unconscious. I couldn't saw his face, but he was crying. He was thanking God to save her life. I was mesmerized by his gesture. Unlike others, who would blame God for snatching the unborn, he was thanking God for saving the living one. It was seen that he loved his wife a lot.

The doctor might have told him about the blood donation thing. He was searching for the NS (Nursing Superintendent), that was me.

I was checking over the medications stock when he came to me. He thanked me for saving his wife. I was so engrossed in work that I couldn't even turn back. I just accepted his thank-you.

Wait, I have heard that voice before also. I turned back but he was gone.

The whole night, I woke up...because that voice created sleeplessness. Some voice echoed my ears, again and again. The next day, I went to the hospital and the first thing that I had done was to check Sakshi's file.

I was shocked till my nerves. How can I forget to check her husband's name?

It was none other than Anil Goyal. That's why that voice...It was somewhat known before.

Some tears left my eyes. Those years, my upbringing, my hometown...All went through my eyes just like a film. I was so innocent and kiddish, he made me a mature person. He had introduced me to this world, and this world to me. I was always grateful to him and I will always be. I heard his voice after such a long time. Because of him only, I opt for nursing. He was a part of some important decisions of my life.

Those wounds were reopened. Everything buried deep in the heart came alive...Again.

I was looking at myself in the mirror, I m 29 years old and settled in life. But was alone.

Yes, we were not a mother-daughter duo nor sisters, still, we shared a bond of love, we were connected by blood.

She was my first love's wife.
