GREED

I was sitting on a bench in a public park. A poor boy was sitting at some distance and looked hungry. There were many boys in that park who came along with their mothers but he was alone.

One of the boys sitting on the adjacent bench was eating a cake. He also had a second piece of cake in his other hand. His mother asked him to give this piece of cake to the poor boy. He was very reluctant and hurriedly ate that second piece too. His mother scolded

him and gave two pieces of cake from her purse to the poor boy.

The poor boy was very happy. He ate one piece and kept the other piece in his hand to be eaten later as his stomach was full now.

After some time another boy came there with his mother. He was eating a piece of burfi. The poor boy took his hand with a cake to his back and started seeing that boy as if expecting a piece of that sweet. His mother saw this and gave a piece of burfi to the poor child.

I saw all this and could not make out who was greedy, the boy who ate the cake hurriedly or the poor boy who in spite of having a piece of cake spare and still expecting something more.

Then I started thinking about our life, how we also behave like these two children in different situations. We all are greedy sometimes or the other and your greed overpowers your need in those situations. Maybe greed is inbuilt in us from the first day of our life.
