Prologue

Rashi and her seventeen years old son Mamik were back to her maternal home to attend the funeral of her mother Shivani. Her mother's funeral was simple, only some close friends and relatives attended the funeral at Rajnagar. Amongst these people Will City-based vicious gangster Vijay also attended the funeral; he came there all alone and left silently after paying his homage to the dead and exchanging a few words with Rashi and her husband.

Her husband Vimal had gone back to Will City to look after his family business. Rashi and Mamik stayed for a few days to perform some rites.

"What was that gangster doing in Badi Ma's funeral?" asked Mamik to Rashi.

"He has been a friend of our family that is why he attended the funeral," replied Aditi.

"Badi Ma was a widow at a very young age...?"

"Yes...what do you want to say?"

"After the death of her husband why didn't she marry someone?"

"She had the responsibilities of bringing me up..."

"And for the company of a man she had Vijay, the gangsterthe man who killed her husband."

"This is really absurd of you to speak like this."

"Sorry mom, but people were talking about Badi Ma and the gangster...I want to know the truth."

"Truth?"

"Yes, mom with all due respect."

"It all started when my father raped and killed Vijay's twenty-year-old sister. Vijay chased him and killed him in cold blood. He surrendered and the judge sent him to jail for fifteen years."

Twenty Years Ago

"Mr Vijay, your ten years term in Raj Nagar jail and five years in other jails are seemingly fair. Today you are a free man, hope you have learned that life is a God gift and no one has a right to take it." Jailor Dina Nath finished his preaching which he often delivers to a prisoner who completes his jail term.

40 years old Vijay, a tall lanky man ignored him and collected his belongings which were not much.

Two hundred yard distance from jailor office to jail's main gate was a dream for every prisoner. Vijay, a former college associate professor, had lost everything which was precious to him; parents, sister, house... which was in the possession of a distant relative who had no intention to vacate it.

The sentry on the main gate opened the small window which was not high enough for a tall man like Vijay, he bent a little and came out.

It was a late December sunny day, chilly gusts of wind were enough to make an ordinary man shiver but not for Vijay. He was little careful about his well being after he killed degenerated rapist Diwakar for raping and killing his younger sister Seema.

No Place For A Convict

"Mr Vijay University has strict rules nowthey don't accept a teacher with a police record and in your case, it is next to impossible. You have served in jailVC hates the prisoners.” said the Raj Nagar Degree College principal Rajat Gupta and stood up.

There was no place for him in his own city.

Why didn't they hang meI'm practically deadcarrying my own cadaver.

"You are from Raj Nagar jailwe don't have any facility to accommodate an ex-convict." said the Will City parole officer.

You don’t want to live but this body requires everything...and you have to provide it all...food, clothes, roof and you get diverted from your tormenting past for a while. If life wants it; let it be it.

"Brother, the world outside is ruthless for the convicts. It's the worst place, but Razia Baji in Will City will take you under her shelter. She can find a job for you; if you want, she can allow you to work for her. She is no goddess; she is in all illegal errands; police is in her pocket. Go enjoy your world outside," were the words of his fellow inmate Rajan, who was a former henchman of Razia Baji.

Game Of Destiny

"Vijay, this is Mrs Shivani, she has been waiting for you for a long time," said Razia Baji the local strong arm of Will City.

He was surprised, what does a gentle-looking woman want from him, an ex-convict?

"Vijay, you are the man who is responsible for my present condition…," said the woman.

"Really!?"

"Yes, you are the man who killed my husband in cold blood; I wanted the judge to punish you with the death penalty, but he awarded you only 15 years. I'm surprised you have come out of prison in a single piece."

"What is going on? You know each other; that is fine; now come to the point or call this meeting off," snarled Razia Baji.

"Baji this man is responsible for ruining me."

"I don't have anything to do with his and your past; you came here to seek some help from him; now go ahead or get out."

"Before killing my husband, he chased my husband for six months; no normal man could have found him; he not only tracked him but killed him also. My twenty years old daughter has been missing since last six month. I've tried my best to find her but no trace of her till now. Police and my hired private detective have given up. This man sitting beside you is an expert in tracking people; I want him to trace my daughter," said Shivani with tears in her eyes.

"Vijay, do you want to search her daughter?" asked Razia Baji to Vijay.

"No..." replied Vijay.

"He says no; the meeting is over Shivani...now go."

Tormented Souls

Society's doors were closed for Vijay but criminals like Razia Baji wanted people like him. She put him under Ramesh Babu, the accountant of her construction company but in reality, he was a racketeer and several rackets were going under his command, he was making good money for Razia. He provided Vijay with a living place at an abandoned construction site in outer Will City in the ruined labour quarters. Vijay didn't want much from his life so he decided to stay with Razia gang as long as destiny allows him.

When he got back to his ruined quarter he found Shivani waiting for him.

"My no is final; I've nothing to do with the family of the man who ruined me and my family," Vijay said promptly.

"And you ruined his…," said Shivani.

"You think we are equal now?"

"Yes, I think so"

"Keep your thoughts to yourself and let me rest a little; I'm tired."

"Mr Vijay, Rashi was born after the death of Diwakar and only I know how I brought her up. Wherever I went to work, people were more interested in my body then in my work. Finally, I decided to give tuition to school children and went on living on the meagre income I made. Rashi was a good student; she got selected in joint engineering exam after 12th and has been studying Architecture in College Of Engineering, Will City for two years. Six months ago she disappeared suddenly; I went to the police, they didn't do anything to find her. I went to a private detective and paid his expensive fees; he also failed. Now I don't have money; losing hope every passing day. Someone told me that you are out of prison. I thought there is still some humanity in you and you will help me find my daughter," said Shivani with tears in her eyes.

"Why do you think that a man like me could be helpful?" asked Vijay.

"What my husband did to your sister was a sin and he deserved to be punished; he's dead but I could never forgive him. What you did cannot be justified; there was law to handle a man like him. By killing him you destroyed the best and productive years of your life. I thought you still have the same respect for women and you’ll help me find my daughter."

Vijay looked at the devastated woman and said, "Do you have details of her friends?"

"There is everything about her friends on this file provided by the private detective."

"Leave it with me, let's see if I find anything on it," said Vijay.

Monster Killer

Vijay has been following Diksha for one week, she seems to be a normal college-goer, there was nothing suspicious about her but Vijay’s instincts were telling him that this Diksha girl was more than a college-goer. There were so many boys and girls in private detective file but all of them were still in college and behaving normally. Diksha was Rashi's roommate and she was not on the detective file, which was strange and a cause of suspicion for Vijay. On the tenth day Vijay was about to give up when another ghost from past appeared, Rahul Lakha; a fellow inmate from Raj Nagar jail, a man imprisoned for human trafficking. Diksha met him in a restaurant and they stayed there for one hour or so.

By the evening Vijay knew Rahul was staying in a cheap motel in the outskirt of Devdurg. He checked his revolver which he obtained from Razia Baji.

The motel was not big but was completely occupied; Rahul was staying there with his original name.

He went straight to his room and knocked.

"Come in..." a busy voice came from the room.

"How are you, Rahul?" asked Vijay after entering the room.

"Who are you? What do you want?" asked bewildered Rahul.

"I think you forgot the beating which I gave you in Raj Nagar prison."

"What do you want?"

"Where is Rashi?"

"What are you talking about? Who is she?"

"Okay; hope this colt revolver will make you remember about her," said Vijay taking his revolver in his hand.

"My answerer is still the same..."

"Let's see...," said Vijay, fixing a silencer on the revolver's barrel, he waited for a while and fired, the bullet blew one of Rahul's ear lobe.

He screamed in pain and cursed him.

"You are playing with the fire; you don't know who you are messing with."

"Answer; next bullet will make a hole in your head."

"Get lost..."

Next bullet blew Rahul's knee cap and he screamed in pain.

"You dog; we kidnapped her and sold her in a Purushpur village; go find her," said Rahul cursing him.

And Vijay blew his other knee cap.

"Name of the village?"

"Kill me; you'll never find her."

Scum Of Society

Vijay told Shivani everything about Rahul and Diksha's nexus. She was surprised to know that he had killed a man to find her daughter.

On her insistence, Vijay took her to Diksha's hostel room, as she wanted to avoid violence.

Diksha was alone in her room and due to the weekend, the hostel was almost empty.

"Let me talk to her…," said Shivani.

Vijay shrugged.

"Diksha, please tell me where is Rashi?" pleaded Shivani before Diksha whom Vijay forced to stay in her room.

"Majra Village, district Jwala, go and get her if you have power," said Diksha with a grin.

Vijay looked at Diksha menacingly and took out his revolver. There were clouds of terror on Diksha’s face. He fired swiftly and Diksha fell on the floor like a heavy log.

Shivani was surprised at Vijay for whom killing was so easy. It was really hard to understand how this man could take human life so easily. Now Shivani wanted to get rid of Vijay.

"Thanks, Vijay, for all you've done; now it's my turn to do something; I can find my daughter now," said Shivani with grateful eyes.

"Shivani Ji, it's not as easy as it seems, people in Purushpur buy girls to wed their sons and normally a single girl is enough for all their unmarried sons. They spend a lot of money on it, the girl once in their trap can't come out so easily, and they can take the lives of the people who try to free her." Vijay explained with concern.

Finding The Lost Girl

It was very hard to stop Shivani from coming with him so he hired a rental Jeep and headed towards Village Majra, District Jwala. The village was twenty km east of the district. They reached at Jwala early in the morning and after confirming the direction of the village they headed towards the village.

The road towards the village was dusty and it was full of mud outside the village.

"Do you know driving?" asked Vijay to Shivani.

"No"

"What about your daughter?"

"Yes, she knows driving"

"Okay, I'm going inside the village; there may be trouble, please stay here in the jeep until I come back."

Shivani nodded.

It was really very hard to find the abducted girl but Vijay coincidentally found a drunkard who not only informed him about Rashi but took him to that big house also just for rupees five hundred.

Vijay knocked on the door. A tall man opened the door and asked, "What do you want?"

Vijay asked him the whereabouts of Rashi.

The man looked at him scornfully and said, "Come inside."

As Vijay entered the house a powerful blow on his head made him fall and he lost his consciousness.

When he regained consciousness he was in a dirty barn tied in a chair. The man whom he met earlier was standing in front of him and saying, "Yes, the girl is married to my seven sons; free her, if you have got the guts. I'll cut you into pieces now and that girl will entertain some more boys of my family now," said the tall man in a turban to Vijay.

Suddenly the man fell and Shivani appeared with a club in her hand, she untied Vijay in a hurry.

"You why?"

"Keep quiet; let's find my daughter."

The main house was a maze of several rooms, they were searching for them hurriedly, there was still no sign of Rashi. Finally, they entered the lobby of the house; there she was with seven men all armed with guns.

"Kill both of them..!" someone shouted and a shower of hot lead welcomed them.

They fell on the ground to save themselves. Vijay had taken out his revolver. That very moment a woman came running and bumped into Shivani and fell on the ground, that very moment Vijay grabbed that woman and put his revolver on that woman's temple and shouted, "Stop fire or I will kill this woman."

The fire stopped and the tall men looked at them with their surprised eyes.

"Rashi, come!" shouted Shivani and the girl came out running.

"Vijay; please take my daughter out of this hell please go."

"No, you better go out with your daughter, I'll handle these cowards." Responded Vijay.

Shivani held the hand of her daughter and looked at Vijay with concern.

"Run both of you before the other villagers intervene," shouted Vijay.

Both of the women ran towards the door of that house, there were people outside the house with sticks in their hands but no one was interested in them. All of the villagers were looking at the man who had held a woman as his captive.

Freedom

Vijay saw villagers were gathering on the roof of that house, most of them were armed with stones, sticks and illegal firearms.

He let the woman go and looked for an escape, there was none, that very moment a flying cobble hit his chest and he ran for shelter. Now the villagers and house owners were firing at him.

A few km away, Rashi was driving the jeep with her trembling hands.

"Who was that man, mom?" asked Rashi while concentrating on the driving.

"A long story kid, but the man is really in big trouble; let's go to a police station and try to find some help to save him," replied Shivani hearing the gunshots which were echoing in the air.

Epilogue

"I'm sorry mom; my assumption about Mr Vijay and Badi Ma was totally wrong, but how he survived?" asked Mamik to Rashi.

"Razia Baji and his gang intervened and killed the sinner family to free Vijay. He was half-dead when they found him, but he survived. That gentleman offered his life for us, the family of a man who ruined his family," replied Rashi.

"And he became a family friend after that incidence?" asked Mamik.

"Yes, he's still a friend," replied Rashi.
