In Pursuit Of Happiness

In pursuit of happiness, off I went,

Treading along the forsaken path,

Somewhere out there was my destination,

I was prepared for a long, long walk.

I trekked along the picturesque path,

Gathering memories and lovely thoughts,

Exposed to a sea of fleeting emotions,

With a seeking, but not content heart.

I was exploring, leading a nomadic life,

Doing all that I enjoyed and liked,

Still felt empty, remained an unhappy soul,

Wandering aimlessly with no sight of my goal.

As I marched on with stubborn resolve,

I stopped to admire a quiet, serene locale,

There, in a meagre dwelling along the bay,

Lived a family happy and gay.

Sharing and caring with unshaken faith,

Living each moment, like it was their last day,

They had each other for the challenges they faced,

So, even in poverty, they remained unfazed.

When I saw each of their gleaming, happy face,

Of anger, worry, depression or sorrow - not a trace,

I realised I had travelled far and wide,

Only to seek something which was already in my mind.
