Dear diary,

Yesterday I jotted to you lockdown stories in lockup. Depicting the social and emotional changes in the life of policemen BB because of the COVID crisis. Today let me tell you a beautiful heart touching story. It's a love story, a story about humanity or the story of bringing a new life. You decide.

The next morning at 6:30 am a call comes to Constable Shambhu linga's mobile. After attending the call his face becomes pale.

SI Dhananjay: Whose call is it Linganna? Why are you looking so tense?

Constable Shambhu Linga: Sir, it's Appanna's call. His wife had a premature labor pain he is in hospital. As we have got strict orders that we can't take leave he is requesting me to do his duty.

SI Dhananjay: Oh! Is it? Both mother & baby are fine knows?

Constable Shambhu Linga: Don't know sir, he didn't call. He was saying no gynec is available in the government hospital. I will inform Sarojamma also. Apppanna is all alone, there is no elder in his family.

SI Dhananjay: Let's go and meet Appanna. Take the fruits from my locker.

(Both SI and Linganna drive to a government hospital. In the Jeep Constable narrates Appanna's story)

Constable Shambhu Linga: Sir you know what, Appanna Samuel is an orphan he stayed in a church and studied in a government school with the merit fellowship all he could make is get a constable job. He has done a correspondence degree from IGNOU. He has also written the SI exam. I hope he clears it. You know what sir, oh shiva Shambhu Linga, he had a love marriage. His wife Margaret is also an orphan who was staying with him in the same orphanage she has cleared her 12th and wants to become a doctor. That's why Apppanna is working hard to clear the SI exam. To make his wife a doctor. Such a good person knows sir. What a love story Shambhu Linga.

Within 20 minutes they land in front of the government hospital.

SI Dhananjay: how is your wife Appanna?

"She is not well sir, we are waiting for gynec from one hour, no one is here."

Answered constable Appanna in a sad voice with tears of pain rolling from his eyes.

SI Dhananjay: Don't worry I will call my family doctor.

Constable Appanna: Sarojamma has gone to bring doctor sir.

In no time Constable Saroja arrives with Dr.Atul.

Dr.Atul: Where is the patient?

A nurse points to the labor room.

Dr. Atul: The nurse brings hot water, sanitized scissors, gloves, apron n mask. Ward boy bring one bottle of alcohol and clean the entire room. Everyone, please stay outside.

After 30minutes Dr. Atul comes out of the labour room. And announces

" Both mother and baby are safe. It's a girl child. Your wife is unconscious, but she is fine. Come hold your daughter. Sister sanitizes his hands."

Constable Appanna sanitizes his hands with alcohol. Grabs her little angel in her arms and maintaining the distance bow down to the doctor. and says "Thank you, doctor, how can I pay for your help. I don't know. If you weren't there I would have lost my wife and baby."

Dr. Atul: I just did my duty. If you want to thank anyone, thank that almighty and Constable Saroja Devi. If she wasn't there on time to pick me then I couldn't have been able to save your wife."

Constable Appanna: Sister Saroja Devi, you really came in my life as Devi to rescue me and my family. How did you come to know about me mother?

Constable Saroja: When Linganna called me, 1st person who came in my mind was Dr. Atul. Thankfully I was near his house. I went to him and told him about the situation. Without delaying a single minute he came with me on my bike.

From ward boy to nurse, from constable to SI everyone started thanking Dr. Atul. To break the ice the doctor asked, "So Appanna what will you name your little angel...?"

Constable Appanna: As a token of gratitude to two of my living deities and thanking mother Mary who brought these two persons in my life I would like to name my little angel as 'Mary Atulya Devi.'

Everybody repeat the baby's name 'Mary Atulya Devi.' Happiness echoes everywhere.
