The Christmas Scene- Chapter 8 ( Uncle Percy Family)

I reached an empty barn. In the Bible, there was a person who greeted them and offered they stay in the barn. At least that’s what I remember. I failed church school. So now, it was my job to make the barn look bustling with life and occupied. I made minor preparations- a few cloaks and a tiny bed of hay, some food, and water. Then I took some of my leftover food and heated it so the smell wafted around. Then I ate it. What? I was hungry!

I was licking the remains of food off my plate (I was alone, there was no one judging me, except you now that I told you), when I heard a knock on the door. Mary and Joseph. They asked for a place to stay. I showed them the barn. Joseph was a little reluctant but gave in. As I was leaving, I realized it was time. Jesus Christ was born. The miracle of Christmas. I went in and got them some warm water and a shawl. As I saw them, I felt a pang of pain. Where was my family? The three kings came and went, but I didn’t care anymore. The people who mattered in my life, just weren’t there.

A huge ruckus got my attention. Two carts. Three mules. And my family and friends, laughing and joking in a perfect condition. Mrs. Lavigne’s ankle was healed. Tyson and Uncle were free from their fevers. Millie and Rebecca were red as roses, with no signs of stomach flu. As were Leo and Alexandra. They were all having fun. Well, after eight chapters, Leo and Alexandra had their fortunes fulfilled. I realized the miracle of Christmas wasn’t the birth of Christ. It was family. The love we share, the bond we have, that’s what makes Christmas what it is. I must say, Uncle Percy may be a one-man comedy show, and Aunt might have a high temper, but that’s what made our summer so eventful. Without Tamara, we wouldn’t have had that day in the garden. Pepper may be a practical joker, but I just can’t imagine my life without her. Tyson, Millie, and Rebecca are perfect just the way they are.

This Christmas was far from perfect, but it was one of the greatest one ever. We learned how much our family meant, and how lives are without them. Yes, there are times I wish Pepper would disappear, or Tamara wouldn’t be so self-centered. But I love them a lot.

Now, we go home. The issue was, the time machine was frozen. No really. Someone spilled milk on the machine. So we gather snow, while the machine sits next to the fire, and heats up. Heated trip home!

After five hours, our machine melted. So we gave the cottage to Mary and Joseph, traveled a mile or two in the cart, then went home. We reached home in a minute. Back to our century, back in our old clothes, on the same day and the same second we had this disaster. It was like time had frozen. But for us, it felt like a week (because it actually was!) now we could enjoy our lives the way it was, and Zack finally got his movie.

But now, we had work to do. We decorated uncle’s car to look like a sleigh, then we loaded Max and Zack’s charity drive bags into the car. Well, everyone except for Tamara. She was back to her old self, hunting around her room for her Santa Claus outfit. Ah, it’s good to be back.

We clamored into our sleigh and went to all the orphanages in town. To each kid, we gave chocolates and toys. Their smile was the best thing in the world. Then we drove around town, listening to Christmas carols, and Pepper belting her versions out. For once, Tamara didn’t even bother with the hat. She just sang along. The town looked so happy and bright, it really felt great. Until someone sneezed. Welcome to the era of the Noble virus. Out came masks, face shields, and all sorts of other protocols. Suddenly, terribly-cold-era –ruled-by –maniacal-king-out –to –kill-an-unborn-baby scenario didn’t seem so bad. Well, on the bright side, we still had that sleepover to look forward to.
