Max was in Ausable's room, on the verge of getting the documents he so desperately needed when suddenly someone showed up at the door. On learning it was the police, Max, falling for Ausable's ploy jumped out the window, hoping to land on the balcony. To his horror, there was no balcony, only a vast expanse of emptiness. Screaming, he clawed the area around him madly, searching for something to grab onto. Luck favoured him and he managed to grab a tree branch. He looked up. He was three floors below Ausable's room. Damn that fiend! This was the third time Ausable had beat Max to get his hands on such essential documents. The problem with Ausable was that the papers didn't always end up in the right hands. While Max worked for the government, Ausable worked for a secret service associated with Spain. These documents, if received by the country would bring utter damage to France. Max would lose his job. He needed to get the documents back from Ausable.

Max climbed out of the tree, thinking. He couldn't possibly slip back into Ausable's room with the police and that journalist in. So he must think of another way to get into the room. He paced around the ground thinking. It was 12:15. The documents were being taken to the room in another 15 minutes. Max could either hijack the documents as they were coming in and risk a scene in the middle of the hotel lobby. That seemed to be the most dangerous method possible, seeing as Ausable had the police with him. Then what could Max do?

An idea was slowly formulating in the back of Max's head. Could he sneak into the kitchen as a waiter, and hopefully get an order up to Ausable, and slip into the room that way? Yes, he probably could. Quietly, he snuck into the kitchen and grabbed a waiter's uniform. He quickly changed into it, hiding his own clothes and went into the kitchen.

“Is there an order for a Mr Ausable to be delivered,” he asked. “No,” the Maitre'd hotel responded curtly, “Get back to work!” “You'll excuse me, sir, but I have just been informed that a Mr Ausable had made an order that did not reach him. He is extremely frustrated and is waiting for it to be sent to him.” “Oh, is that so? The last order was of a bottle of whiskey which we sent up to him at around midnight. There's been nothing else since.” So that was the 'Police' at Ausable's room! No more than a useless waiter. Scowling, Max said, “Alright. If you'll excuse me, I'll be taking my 15-minute break now.”

He hurried back to the kitchen closet, grabbed his regular clothes and went up to Ausable's room again. Outside, he ran into a person who he least expected to meet. Sydney, of all people, was standing outside the door, in a waiter's uniform, quietly listening to what was going on inside. “Sydney,” Max whispered, surprised. “What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be in Milan?” She turned to him. “I thought you might need some backup,” she said. “The drinks that went up to him? Intercepted and drugged. The journalist hoped for what he called an 'authentic thrill'. Little did he know that he would be on the receiving end of the thrill,” she laughed softly. “In about five minutes, the man with the documents will reach. We intercept him from here. He calls Ausable for help. However, Ausable won't be able to respond before tomorrow morning, by when we will have been long gone with the papers.” Max was in awe. Once again, Sydney had been able to get him out of a tight situation.

Five minutes went by. The elevator stopped on the 6th floor. A man with a gun and a bag in his hands walked out, unsuspectingly. The elevator closed behind him. Sydney took out a small automatic and snuck up behind him. With one quick move, using the back of her gun as a club, she knocked him out cold. Max jumped up, grabbed the gun, took from his hand the documents and ran down the steps, Sydney hot on his heels. The documents were finally in safe hands and would soon reach the right people.
