The Bag

Mythli was so eager to check all the baggage that her daughter had left in the storage shelf of her home in the US. She and her husband have been staying with her daughter since the pandemic struck across the world and all places. Her daughter and son in law were working with good organizations with good pay and perks. They were very comfortable and you can call them well off. Mythli being Mythli the typical indian mom who did not approve her daughter's way of living and spending. She thought they were spending extravagantly and were literally throwing money. Something happened to prove that Mythli was right with what she thought. Her daughter had packed a very big bag and dumped it in the storage shelf. Mythli was so curious to check all the things that were dumped in the bag. It had been a habit with her since her visit to her daughters place. Mythli used to check the bags and would pick up things she liked and would tuck it away in her suitcase without her daughter knowing it. Mythli knew her daughter would hate if she knew Mythli was doing something like that. She had many times stopped Mythli from doing such things saying it was not smart to do so. She would buy Mythli whatever she wanted. But who can stop an Indian mom right?      

   In the next week Mythli picked up a bag from the storage shelf and felt so thrilled. She thought what a beautiful bag, good quality and lovely color. Imagine how my daughter dumped it to dispose it off into the trash can. She tucked away the bag into her suitcase without anyone noticing it. It was time for them to move to India after a long stay of an year or so. With heavy heart Mythli and her husband boarded the flight and reached Bombay in the wee hours. Their onward journey to Chennai was a few hours from then. After relaxing for sometime, inspite of jetlag, Mythli like any woman expressed her desire to go shopping for some ethnic goods for herself and her daughter in law. Her husband even though was tired agreed to accompany her on this shopping spree. Both of them started off to a very well known Mall that was nearby to the Hotel they stayed. Mythli was so excited.

The minute they entered the mall she noticed the sales girls clamouring to attend to her addressing her mam'you see this, it will suit you, mam the color is so good etc. Mythli was surprised at this attention being showered on her She felt like a queen. The sales girls offered her and her husband a delicious drink also. Mythli thought all these were sales gimmicks credit the pandemic that had slowed all businesses At the same time she noticed that other customers were not attended so well. Then her mind told her 'wow what a bag ' She sensed the magic was created by the bag she was carrying yes, the one which her daughter had discarded and the one Mythli very quietly picked up from the dumping bag. She recalled her daughter had promised to buy her that very bag and had even quoted its price when Mythli had enquuired about the same. Mythli realised how the bag had prompted the sales girls to shower her with all praise and importance. She thought wow this is amazing. She even recalled the slogan "every bag speaks about you and for you. ".
