The Apparition
The Apparition
'A strange thing happened today.' my cousin sister said. 'And what, may I ask was that strange thing?' I inquired.
It had been a gloomy, wet, monsoon evening and it had been drizzling continuously since the previous night with occassional heavy spells. My sister replied that she had gone on a walk to the nearby park that morning after breakfast, which I had often forbidden her to do given the probable presence of snakes in the park at that time of the year. Tne park is not large in area but it is long and shaped like a 'T'. Parts of it are overgrown with trees and bushes such that it appears like an extremely small forest. She had casually wandered into one of the places with the most foliage, farther from all the other people in the park. It was raining continuously and she reported having heard a noise amidst the pattering of the raindrops that sounded like a thud. She looked all around for the source of the sound but dud not find anything. After sometime however, she noticed movement in the nearby bushes and evacuated the area immediately.
"Must have been a snake, or a mongoose killing a snake.", I remarked, not a least bit shaken by her story. She asked me to let her finish and reported that she had returned to the place armed with a cricket bat for protection and the exact same events unfolded. She found nothing in the bushes when she bravely investigated by thrusting the bat into them and asked me to be Feluda and investigate.
"And why should I believe you?"
"Because I have proof," she said as she showed me footage that she had filmed during her second endeavou
r with whatever it was. I could not deny the evidence and agreed to help her investigate.
The next morning, when the weather conditions were much worse than the previous day, we, clothed in raincoats, set off for that place to investigate and were armed with a cricket bat and a cane. We reached the place and waited in the poring rain for quite some time. There was no thud, no movement and absolutely nothing that symbolized Paranormal activity as my sister was quite certain it was.
"It looks like the ghost's death anniversary was yesterday and so it appeared specialky yesterday.", she was adamant.
"There is no scientific evidence for the existence of—" my lips froze and eyes transfixed as I stared in front. My sister had the same reaction. We stood rooted at that spot for goodness knows how long, not moving a muscle in utter shock and disbelief. In front of us stood a tall man dressed completely in black—a black raincoat, a black mask, a black cap and bkack wellies.
However, quite contrary to what you may imagine happened next, I burst out laughing, so did my sister, so did the tall ghost, so did a few other people in the nearby bushes.
"You thought I would fall for your pranks?" I demanded to know from my sister and her band of friends. "Worth a try," said the ghost who was none other than a good fruend of the family—Shreyas. The others came out of the bushes and we had a good laugh about the prank that was intended towards scaring me, while I knew that something like this was about to happen the moment by naughty sister started the story.
