I frantically swam back toward my boat, being cautious not to splash around too much and alert the monster to my presence. I reached the raft and mounted on it. I found my paddles. And began slowly paddling in what I thought was the direction I needed to go in.
A long time went by without anything eventful happening. I felt hungry, but I didn't want to eat anything yet. I wanted to see if I could go further without eating and thus save some food.
I kept paddling and after some time I became too hungry not to eat. I ate some of the soup my mother had given, but it didn't come close to satisfying me. The sun was setting, and I still couldn't see the island. I kept paddling for a long time until my arms felt as if they would fall off from pain. I dragged the paddles on to the boat and felt the tide. It was moving to the right slightly. I looked up. Huge dark clouds blocked out the sky. It was going to rain. It was going to rain heavily. Very heavily. I decided to risk it because I was too tired to try to get out of the storm. I fell asleep the moment I closed my eyes.
CRACK! I bolted upright, startled by a huge rumbling sound. Light flashed across the sky. There was a slow drizzle falling across my face, which was quickly escalating. I got up and grabbed the paddles frantically paddling forward. My tired arms couldn't take me very fast.
Rain poured all around me. The ocean threw huge waves at my raft. I frantically fought against the sea to keep my raft afloat. I noticed from the corner of my eye huge wave slowly becoming bigger and bigger. I looked up to see a huge wall of blue come crashing down over me throwing the raft and me away. I landed in the ice-cold water, grabbing my spear close to my body. I floundered around the water trying to find my raft. My hand hit the side of the raft, which had flipped throwing the oars, rations, and weapons everywhere. I moved to climb onto the boat, but I was hit by another wave that pushed me further away. I wiped the water from my eyes and pushed through the rain and ocean to reach my raft once again. I climbed onto it and grabbed an oar that was floating on the water next to the boat. I looked around and wondered if I could survive the storm.
