Sunshine Saves a Life

It was a pongal holiday again, this year too. We were flying kites on Sankranti. Our kite flew higher than everyone else's. Then our kite was cut down by a boy from the other village. So we all ran behind the kite. It had travelled so far. When I got the kite in my hand, Leela said, "What's that?”

We saw a beautiful snowy place where everything was white even trees were covered with snow and it seemed like a tree of snow.

 We went to our house to wear jackets, socks,etc. Then we went to that place, as we were moving forward the temperature was decreasing gradually to freezing cold. It was like a desert area but not a desert. As far as we can see there was only snow. Leela was getting tired so she sat on the rock of snow.

“Oh my god, why is it moving? Help me please.” she screamed.

“Get up, Leela; it's a polar bear,” Asher replied.

“Yes”, a loud and dangerous voice came from him.

“Yes, I'm a polar bear but why is there a need to ask help, Leela”

“How can you speak?” We all asked. 

“It’s a different world where most of the things are different from earth.Animals can speak here and you will see many more strange things here; the first time any human being from earth came here. How did you get to know about this world?”

“Our kite was cut down by someone and it fell down at the main gate of this world and we saw snow everywhere so we came here,” I replied.

“Oh! Do you want a new kite?”

“Yes yes,” we replied.

Suddenly, the polar bear opened a shop of kites, white snowy kites. We took some kites from him and then the polar bear told so many things about that world.

He said, “Before, it was a desert area, there was no water and some people prayed to God to give them water and to make this area so cold, after some days this area becomes this much cold as it is now, I lived in North pole but then I came here because it is more cold here.” 

“That's nice,” we said.

We explored so many places with the polar bear and at night we stayed in his home, there was ice cream to eat and some more cold things. 

We spent some days there but things were not the same as it was in the beginning. Someone in that snowy world wanted to kill us or he wanted us to leave this world and this thing we get to know when someone put poison in Leela’s tea. One day polar bear made a special tea for his special friend Leela. When he was making the tea, we went to fly the snowy kites in the snowy place. When we returned, he gave that tea to Leela. But suddenly one of my friends asked, “Did you put snow in your tea bear, there is something white thing.” 

Then, we gave that white thing to a rat to eat and after sometime he died. We thought maybe someone dropped it in the tea who was passing by it. We didn't focus much more on that.

One night Polar bear asked us to sleep with him for the last time. Because the next morning, we had to leave that place, as our parents were waiting for us. We slept with him peacefully but at 3:00a.m I saw a shadow behind the curtain. That shadow had a knife in his hand but I thought it was just my dream. After some time, I heard the last voice of Asher. “Save me.” I ran to save him but when I reached I saw Leela and Asher lying cold and dead.

Polar bear was standing there with a bloody knife in his hand. I was completely shocked.

I ran as fast as the wind but suddenly Polar bear came in front of me with that knife. I was scared and chanting the names of God.

Polar bear raised his hand to kill me and I closed my eyes. I thought it's my last time. But, some light hit my face, I opened my eyes and saw the sun was rising and the whole world melted with the Polar bear and then I really opened my eyes. 

Asher and Leela said “Get up, it's Sankranti day and you are still sleeping. We have to fly kites also.Get up fast.”

Then I realised it was just my bad dream and my friends were with me. On that day, I was the happiest person on the earth.
