So We Meet Again

So We Meet Again

Companies are required to give their employees a lunch break. You can talk on the phone or smoke a cigarette. People have thirty minutes to eat lunch. Work is work. I work at a computer software company. Companies should have designated parking spots. But my company doesn’t do that. I have to park my car in the back alley next to a parking meter. The alley was home to many restaurants. And homeless cats. I was getting out of my car and was surprised to find a black cat. He nudged my leg and purred. He wanted my food. The first day cottage cheese. The second day was sandwiches. And the third day was fruit salad. This might be the cat’s only meal of the day. The cat had knots in his fur. It had long nails. I didn’t think anything of it but several days later he was back again. He was abandoned. A family might leave them behind. I didn’t want the ball of fur to go to a shelter. After work one day I snuck into the alley to get the cat. I got some old blankets and put them on the passenger seat. His nails worried me. I was afraid that he would put holes in the fabric. But the ride went smoothly. I decided to leave home. I had no idea what a pet needs. I was glad that it wasn’t a dog because they had to have a lot of walks and cats don’t have leashes. I had a friend that worked at a newspaper and put an ad in the newspaper. Midnight black cat, not spayed. The ad was in the newspaper for two weeks and no one responded. I called the cat Boots because his feet were white. The cat was mine now. If I hadn’t gone into the alley it would be a completely different story. It takes one person to open your heart to love.
