Athena the goddess of wisdom loved to sing in her room. She would sing while she brushed her hair. She loved to sing even though it was against the rules. She got her singing voice from her mother Metis.

There was only one portrait hanging in the great hall. It was her mother. Her father Zeus had wanted to get one painted after Metis died.

Zeus’s brother Hades didn’t attend the funeral of Metis, even though he was lord of the underworld. Hades thought that beatification was overrated. Zeus and Hades were not cut from the same cloth. They each loved the gods in their special place. Truthfully, Zeus was afraid of Hades.

Athena wasn’t the only singer in the Temple of Olympus. As something fun to do, Zeus put on a singing and talent show. There would be beautiful flowers awarded to the winner, but in his mind, he already knew who was the winner. Zeus went all out promoting his event by flying a blimp across the sky.

When Hades heard the news, he fired shots out of his hands, melting the back of his throne. He was notorious for doing this. Ashes destroyed every single thing that he touched, making him hard to buy. He didn’t care about the pain that Zeus felt from losing Métis.

He got off his behind and went to the spell cabinet to make a traveling spell. Out of frustration Hades threw bottles of poison and potions to the floor. He never cooked home meals — just potions. The bottles broke and a mixture of garlic green and flamingo pink smoke exploded from them. Thunder and lightning were needed to stop the event in Olympus. Yes, thunder was the ingredient that was needed.

Hades took his boat and his stingrays and vanished into the ocean of Olympus. He checked under every single rock in the darkness. He heard Athena who was up late singing.

“Well, well. You know my rules about singing,” laughed Hades with mirth in his voice as he stole Athena from his brother.

The kingdom woke up distraught. Rose, Athena’s sister, woke up with a fright. She saw the ransom note.

Hades was overjoyed by his sudden surge of power. Music was forbidden. Athena was always showing love for others with her music, but now the music was replaced by rain showers.

Hermes could try to mediate things between Zeus and Hades, but Zeus wanted him to watch things at home while he went to see his brother alone. Tempers would flare and he didn’t know if he would make it home alive again. He had to try to get through to Hades using words, not violence.

He took a deep breath and he flew into the cotton candy clouds. The clouds were midnight black where his brother lived. It was as if Hades could sense his presence as Zeus steered his stingrays into Hades’ graveyard of death. The graveyard of death was filled with sorrow as young gods and goddesses were slaughtered by Hades, unable to escape. The graveyard had a harp playing softly in the distance.

Zeus saw a vision of himself as a little boy receiving a small box. Hades was enchanted by the sight of the box. The harp was in Zeus’s box and Hades was jealous. Hades thought that his parents were playing favorites because he was pushed aside.

Zeus heard a blood-curdling scream from a woman in the distance. He looked over at the graveyard and saw the imaginary figure of his daughter in her wedding dress walking toward him. Sadly, he wasn’t sure if he ever would get to see that moment in true life. The image vanished as another scream rang out.

Two-headed dogs met Zeus at the entrance. This was war. The game was on. A one-eyed snake was caged. He noticed spiders and rats. The sound of his daughter’s screams echoed across the room. She was upstairs but one of the dogs bit him, leaving blood circling him. With the magic words, he staggered to his feet and flew upstairs. Muffled sounds greeted him.

Hades had joy written on his face like he wasn’t putting anything or anyone in danger. More muffled screams came from the shadows. Zeroing in on Hades, Zeus cast a spell making him an iceberg, but he managed to escape using his heating powers. Hades made daggers in his eyes as black tar engulfed him.

Athena was good with her powers, and her breathing was the difference between life and death. Lasers from her eyes shot red light on Hades and he instantly grew helicopter wings. Yet he couldn’t escape. The best outcome would be if Hades had to die in jail but it was a lot more fun to deny him his powers. Zeus sentenced him to community service every single Saturday and Hades had to give rides to the gods.

Athena was free to sing and dream and for the first time, she could fall in love. Zeus, her father, was watching over her as she found her dreams.
