Branch 3: Alternate world

Fort Kochi airport witnessed an unprecedented crowd presumably due to the festive season; little did the mob know; they were possibly breathing their last few breaths. Charu held Abhay’s hands tightly; she had enough of melodrama in her life, and now she wished to end the story pretty pleasantly. Charu was not diabolical, her heart was kind and the least she expected was witnessing civilian casualties.

“No. I can’t risk the lives of so many innocent people. If I board the flight, everything will vanish, it will be tormenting for everyone,” Charu said and shrieked impulsively. Yuvan and Abhay continued watching her forlorn countenance.

“What shall I do now? Goddess Athena help me. My soul yearns to start new chapters of life but without any lament punctuations,” she said and sat at the corner seat of the airport lounge; her face clouded with uncertainty. ‘Better I bid some time from Abhay and Yuvaan and communicate with Goddess Athena,’ Charu thought and immediately excused herself for using the bathroom. She walked away from the duo’s vicinity and closed her eyes to visualize Goddess Athena.

When Charu came back from the bathroom, her eloquence had changed, and she looked happy.

“You look optimistic. What happened?” Asked Yuvaan.

“Goddess Athena granted both my wishes. Firstly, I fulfill my duty of sending both species to Planet Antrina, and I will come on planet Earth as a human; without the flight getting vanished. Every puzzle is solved,” she said in a bubbly voice, her happy mood further made her do some catlike stretches. Suddenly, Charu bounced on her toes and held her arms out wide as if she wanted to hug Mother Earth in its entirety.

“Cool down, Charu. Will you put in plain words; I mean, your conversation with Goddess Athena?” Abhay asked her.

“Well, my dear Abhay, here goes the plan: As per Goddess Athena, I will board this flight and reach New York, and Goddess Athena will teleport me to planet Antrina from my New York apartment. After I complete my duty, she will transport me to planet Earth, transforming me into a complete human being. It will be my secret resurrection.”

“Really Charu! This sounds like a small business trip to a different planet. Your Goddess Athena will wave a wand and say abracadabra. Aah! Here comes the human Charu,” Yuvaan exclaimed with his sardonic comment, however his mock resonated happiness, only happiness.

“Voila! Oh, my Goddess Athena,” said Charu as she kissed Abhay and hurried to board the flight to New York. A few steps ahead, she turned to see Abhay, her eyes oozing love for him.

At Charu’s New York Apartment:

Next morning, the sun arrived spreading through its rays’ arrays of tender warmth; and for a moment Charu felt being hugged by her Appa. She immediately embraced herself feeling the gentle energy penetrating her skin. For Charu, Appa’s love undoubtedly superseded Abhay’s. Charu sat near the window sipping her morning coffee and waited for Goddess Athena to arise. She glanced at the alarm clock and exhaled a few short breaths to gain control of her anxiety.

“Don’t get nervous, Charu,” echoed Goddess Athena’s voice.

“Time to go and fulfill your duty,” the vibration of Goddess Athena’s voice lingered in the apartment.

Charu gently closed her eyes, and started shaking dynamically and she felt getting lifted somewhere in space. She was getting teleported to Planet Antrina. As Charu reached the planet, Goddess Athena appeared in front of her and handed the Khopesh sword to her.

“Plunge the sword twice on that rock,” the Goddess said, and Charu obeyed Goddess Athena. As Charu pushed the sword, the rock went into pieces and got transformed into a celestial object which started rotating around the planet Antrina. Steadily, Charu saw Mermitans and Zygotes getting sucked in the rotation of that obscure celestial object; and then the species got landed on Planet Antrina, attired with emotions. Both species codified some instructions on their hi-tech machine and destroyed the eclipse completely.

“Finally! Hurray!” both the species cried aloud as they experienced the flow of hormones rushing like a naughty mouse through their bodies.

“Thank you, dear Charu,” all exclaimed together loudly. Charu covered her face and sporadically peeped through her fingers to visualize the most amazing moment of her life. ‘Helping some needy is like divinity,’ she thought and stood absorbing the celebrations.

‘Time for me to rejoice too,’ Charu thought and immediately went near Goddess Athena.

“Everything is done smoothly. My duty is over, and now I want to celebrate on Earth with my people as a human.” Charu said to Goddess Athena.

“Surely,” said the Goddess. “You will be positioned in a spaceship which is just above the gravity of planet Earth. You will be invisible in the space ship and once the space ship reaches the atmosphere of planet Earth, you will get transformed into a human.”

“And I will reach my Mother Earth as a human,” interrupted Charu excitedly.

“Exactly,” said Goddess Athena.

This was Charu’s first space mission, and her exciting anticipation made some twists in the pit of her stomach. Charu began to tremble in manic excitement while she attired herself in the spacesuit. She entered the spaceship named’ Space Pod’, and the shuttle flung and rushed towards planet Earth leaving behind a faint blue line floating in the void of space.

As the spaceship approached the Earth’s gravitational pull, something went wrong. Some high-speed comet-like object collided with the spaceship tearing the shuttle into pieces. The space ship named ‘Space Pod’ got destroyed outside the orbit of the Earth, and at the same time, Charu’s flat in New York caught fire. Everything got ruined, and no scintilla of Charu’s existence remained on planet Earth. Everything was so sudden, so catastrophic, that Charu didn’t have a second for the resilience. The last sensation Charu felt was the deafening noise of the spaceship going asunder, and then there was silence. Absolute silence. Steadily, a beam of white-luminous light raised Charu’s soul high in the abyss of space. Soon in that mystic light, Goddess Athena zoomed in front of her.

“You killed me. You didn’t keep the promise,” Charu’s soul said. There was a stoical calmness in that soul.

“Yes, I killed you,” said Goddess Athena as she stood frigid in front of her.

“Why? I did my duty, then why?” asked Charu’s soul.

“I mentioned this earlier. Every atom of this universe runs on pre-determined destiny, and this was your destiny as “Charu”. You birthed as Charu to help planet Antrina, and once the duty is over the soul has to leave the body, and that’s the law of the universe,” replied Goddess Athena.

“My soul can’t rest in peace. It will linger around as my desire to be a human is still not satisfied. You forgot your promise, Goddess Athena,” The soul’s voice sounded like a burial hymn; indeed, it was. It was the funeral of a girl named ‘Charu’.

“I haven’t forgotten my promise, dear Charu. You gifted Planet Antrina their most awaited possession. Then how can I break my promise? I will keep up my promise,” said the Goddess.

“How?” asked Charu. “I am dead,” said her soul. Goddess Athena just smiled at her question ‘How?’.

A few seconds later, Charu’s soul experienced waves of radiations covering her, and from her soul, a small cell of energy got released, and the cell raced down in the direction of Mother Earth. Down on earth, the cell of energy got intertwined with the lovemaking of a couple.

Nine months later; Oomen Villa

Mani Oomen had yet to recover from the agony of Charu’s mysterious death in her New York apartment. His life was shattered, and he had no remains of his dear daughter which he could store as her memories. The fire in her New York apartment just left the debris. Black and hot debris. It was a chilly winter morning when Mani Oomen methodically went to the entrance gate of Oomen villa to collect the daily newspaper. A cradle was placed near the gate. An anonymous baby slept peacefully in the cradle as if she was cuddled by the warmth of her own home.

“Whose child is this?” Asked Mani Oomen as he sensed some bizarre spasm of feelings wrapping his brain. His voice made the baby shiver, and she opened her tiny eyes and though nothing seemed visible to the baby girl, her inner spectacle exquisitely sensed the phenomena.

Maybe our universe is just one small part of this huge spacetime, maybe there are unobservable universes that go beyond our visible limit. Maybe we get some telltale signs someday. Maybe.
