Same Target Different Ways

Sumi and Sienna are two neighbours living side by side. Both have their teen children studying in same school. So they are all the time pitted against each other for their way of bringing up their children. Sumi has two children Rachna and Kartik, Sienna also has two children toby and Carol. They all are studying in same school. Sienna keeps tab on each and every movement of her children. Teachers are tired of her over involvement in every activity of the school involving her children. Teachers never inform sienna about parent teacher meeting. Last she came she took over and started talking about what should be done good for all the children, she got all the parents agreed to free movement of parents in school. Teachers requested an immediate ban on her. Next when she came to school security guard stopped her, she was not allowed. Teachers are really happy. 

Rachna and Toby are two best friends. Toby envies Rachna a lot for having such cool mother like Sumi. Sumi lets Rachna do whatever she wants to do. She would never interfere with her decisions. In fact Sumi doesn't even visit Rachna's school other than parent teacher meeting. Rachna always complaints to Sumi about her indifferent behavior. Rachna and Kartik feel that their mother doesn't care enough. They mistake Sumi's liberous way of upbringing for carelessness. Toby asks Sienna to be like Sumi 'Trust your children. Let us decide for ourselves' Toby feels like puppet of her mother who is controlling her, she doesn't have any say in her own life. Rachna wants involvement of her mother and she complaints 'Show us at least some care enough to stop us from making wrong decisions. Our friends haven't seen you.....

How can you be so indifferent. Don't you have any compassion for your children. You are nothing like other mothers. Other mother cares so much for their children they all come to pick them up, they tell what is good for their children, but you don't show any care. You are nothing like an Indian mother'   

Rachna's comments really upset Sumi. She is crying, She goes away. Rachna thought may be next she will change and show more care. But Sumi doesn't change, in fact her behavior has gone worse. Now she doesn't even focus on her brother who is younger to her by 6 years. Rachna has to look after her brother as well. Rachna gets really angry. She puts up her self for adoption. Sumi is given notice by the foster authorities to come for interview. She is asked what did she do that made Rachna to put herself up for adoption. They also ask Rachna's teachers about Sumi's behavior. 

Sumi 'Sir do you know where I come from?! India........'  

'Yes, we know.....what does it have to do with this' 

'Only this has to do with everything here, i have been brought up in an Indian household. You don't understand how it is so sensitive to my existence. I was not allowed to make any choices. My parents took all decisions for me and I was not in favor of any. I have lived the life that they designed for me. I hate them till date. I wanted to marry my college love who was a singer and a free spirited person. I loved being with him. But my parents got me married to Sanjeev an orthodox fellow. All he made me was cooking and he never made me aware of anything regarding finances, or his personal life, family. He died as soon as Rachna was born. He had his business but after finding that his business partner cheated him, he couldn't take it and got heart attack. He left me alone clueless totally. I did not have any idea what to do where do I start. I took over his business and it took me great amount of deal to learn everything and come on my own. I was so happy. I want to prepare my children from beginning and not make them dependent on me. Letting kids make their own decisions from childhood develops their mind. They become confident in themsleves and will not require validation from anyone. I don't want my children to go to same life which I led. I want to leave them free and let them do whatever they want to do. I am handling business as well and learning art of business I enrolled myself in a business class for overall knowledge. I don't want my kids to see my struggle. I know they will manage. Rachna is a very wise child. I am trying my level best to take business far ahead on ladder of success. I want to enjoy with my kids and not discuss life problems. I want to create a great life for them. Understand officials. You will not understand anything. I don't want to put Rachna for foster.' 

Officials start crying hearing her. But they say 'tell this to Rachna, she is highly mistaking you and comparing you to some Sienna....' 

Sumi talks to Rachna 'I am not agreeing with you if you want to sue me you are free. if you are mature enough to compare me to sienna then you must know the truth. Don't need to be so dramatic to gain my attention. I am not going to get involved in your childhood. I will provide you but not drive you. You have to look after your brother as well. Be my guest.'

Toby was there. She was so impressed by Sumi that she ended up kissing her.  

Toby dragged Sumi to Sienna 'Learn something from her. Trust me with my decisions'
