Rooftop

There was once a couple named Rajesh and Geeta. Rajesh was a laborer and Geeta was a maid. As Sanjeev, son of Rajesh was growing up, Rajeev decided that his son should study in good school. As such, he made up his mind to work 18 hours a day. For the first 8 hour, he used to work as a laborer, and then he used to work as a Rickshaw puller. Geeta also started to work as a tailor additionally. They used to eat just one time a day to save money.

Somehow, they managed the tuition fee of the private school and got their son admitted in the private school. After few years, Sanjeev started working in the conglomerate but unfortunately just after a month, he lost his job during lockdown. As such, he decided to go to his village.

Geeta started weeping when she saw Sanjeev. Sanjeev was really surprised that instead of embracing him, his mother is weeping.

Sanjeev asked astonishingly “Ma, what happened ?”

Geeta started weeping very loudly and said “Your papa is sick, and I can’t take him to hospital also. I don’t have money”

Sanjeev ran to his father. Saw that his father is suffering from very high fever. There was no hospital in his village. He did not have enough money to go to town. As such, he tightly clutched his father in lap and started running. Non-stop he ran 10 kms to reach the hospital and got his father admitted in the government hospital.

As soon as the doctor came out after having a look at his father, Sanjeev ran to the doctor and asked “Doctor Saheb, please say that my father will recover soon”

Doctor replied “Beta, I will do everything so that the condition of your father improves. There is a team of doctor that is taking care of your father. However, at present, he is suffering from very high fever, and I can’t say anything. Let’s pray to god, that the condition of your father improves soon”

Sanjeev started weeping loudly “Doctor, please do something. Please take care of my Father….”

Doctor interrupted in between and answered “Please believe in god, everything will be ok. Moreover, I will do anything and everything”

In the meantime, Sanjeev started working as a labor to support his family. Daily he used to go to his village to work and then he used to run to hospital and used to sit there entire day hoping that father will come out and say “Beta, I am fine, let’s go”

After 10 days, his father was discharged. As soon as the father saw Sanjeev he asked “You, here?”

Sanjeev answered “Papa, let’s go to our home, then we will discuss each and everything. At the moment, doctor have advised that you should be under medication and rest for another few days, as you have just recovered from Dengue”

Next day morning, when Rajesh inquired about the job, Sanjeev avoided him and said “Papa, once you are absolutely fine, I will inform you each and everything; till then just take rest and relax”

But after few days, Sanjeev apprised him how he lost his job and what he is doing presently to support his family.

To this Rajesh said “Beta, do not work as a labor. I am fine now. I want you to prepare for interviews. I will work”

Sanjeev said “I don’t want you to work, Papa. I just want you to take rest now. I will work and prepare for interviews both. Please allow me to work till I get shortlisted”

There was a heated argument between the father and the son, and both were adamant to work. As such, they decided to work together. After 5 years, Rajesh saw his grandson. When Mithilesh was 4 years old, they got him admitted in government school.

3 years down the lane, Mithilesh wanted to go to the private school. Even Sanjeev and Rajesh wanted his son to go to private school but together they did not have enough money.

Sanjeev told his son “Beta, I will get you admitted in private school next year, I promise”

Mithilesh said “Ok, I will wait for another year, but do remember your promise”

Although Sanjeev and Rajesh toiled very hard, but still after 10 months, they did not have enough money so as to get his son/grandson admitted to the school as the fees have increased tremendously with time. Rajesh decided to take loan. Everyone was asking for mortgage, he did not have anything that he could mortgage, and as such he decided that he will mortgage his house.

Mithilesh was admitted to the school. In the meantime, Sanjeev was interviewed for many companies but unfortunately he was not selected.

After few years, Sanjeev started working in the pharma company as a Senior Marketing Manager. Mithilesh also got the job in the same company. Together, they could pay of the debt that they took.

Rajesh, Sanjeev, Geeta and everyone started to live in Delhi together in 3BHK which Mithilesh and Sanjeev booked.

When Geeta saw the flat for the first time, she couldn’t help herself but she started weeping and said “Beta, I have never seen this type of house my entire life.”

Sanjeev Said “Ma, after all why am I earning, for you, dad and my family only. I just want you to stay here with me”

They started living happily hereafter in Delhi.
