Hunting Truth

Very active, bold, beautiful, and clever girl in her college time who was too frank by nature. She used to talk with everybody known to her without any hesitation in those days of the eighties. Her behavior was odd in comparison to typical Indian girls of those days. A boy who was very sincere, not too crazy like other boys in talking with girls without any urgent necessity. Even though some girls wanted to talk with him. He just escaped from their route, avoiding them as if he had not seen them at all. He was the very liked fellow in the girls because he was fairly smart, gentle, intelligent, bold enough in discussion on the topic with the professors of various subjects. All most all professors always expect answers to their raised questions from him. There were two sections in the college at that time. The girl was very famous in college. Most of the students of college responded to her. Most of the students failed in the first year of graduation. So, there were only two sections in the college thereafter. One with a biology group and the other with a mathematic group with some common subjects. Both of them were in the same class thereafter. But she was of the opinion that the boy was an egoist and outshine. So she registered her protest with him on many occasions. Whenever they talk on any matter, there was always some sort of tussle or conflict between them. But boy has never protested her. Other girls had very much sympathy with him. Since both were in the class and they were practical partners in the same batch. So there was one-to-one contact with each other. She was very bold. That is why he never unnecessarily talked with her. Slowly but steady, the girl got along with him. She tried to open him like other friends, but the boy was from a very middle-class family and his father was retired from a job without pension provision at that time.

All of sudden, the family’s economic condition was collapsed. He was the youngest son in the family. All his brothers and sisters were married. They had their own families in different towns. Father was worried about his education, therefore he was not get involved in futile activities like other students. Action speaks louder than words. But, there was some hidden emotion about her. Neither he accepted nor refused her love. She was still optimistic to understand his emotions. She also kept temperament in this love matter. when she kept two steps, he just slightly respond to her move. He was not as fast as other students at all. But she had a very good opinion of him. She told all that he was very good by heart. As time passed, the gap between them gets reduced. He used to respond to her. She was optimistic that one day, he would accept her from the bottom of his heart. She was then serious mode and slow down her naughty activities. She also became serious like him. Both were in the final year of graduation. They were busy in their study and practice. The boy was engaged in his preparation. He didn’t pay much more attention to her. There were no communication means like today. Only face-to-face contact was the only solution to meet with each other. The boy was from another town. He used to come to college daily by train. Since it was the preparation leave before the final university examination. They couldn’t meet with each other till the commencement of the examination. Since their names start with the same alphabets of English. They were back to back in the examination hall. Since both were serious about the examination, there was very little chat with each other. When the examination was over, there was no communication except telepathy. When both passed the examination, they could not meet with each other. Their last talk was held during the Diploma in the business management entrance examination. Both passed their entrance examination of the above-said course. She was selected in the interview for the course, But the boy was not selected as he had no business background as per the selection body. He was a science graduate. Hence they were interested in boys who were commerce graduates and had a business background.

He was then switched over for a master's degree in science in another city. Boy was very serious about his career as he knew his financial condition. She was very clear and passed the competition examination of a nationalized bank. She was then a bank employee in another state. The boy also completed his post-graduation. He was also employed in a central government office in the same state but in a different city. This fact was not known to them. Out of sight, out of mind. He tried to forget her. Absences make the heart grow fonder. He thought that she would marry up till now and might be happy in her life.

One day when he was going to his workplace from his native place after availing his leave. Her brothers met themselves with that boy in the boogie. They talked with him. They were juniors to him in college, but they knew about their ideal relation. He didn’t know that their sister was yet not married. They told that they were going to her sister’s town to meet her. He thought that she might be settled there only. They got down when the train reached their destination. As per known information, he thought for a while to meet her at her workplace. Then he felt why should unnecessarily disturb her. He also get married. Both of them came back to their own city after a few years.

One day, his classmate met with him. Both were happy. They talked about so many friends. Then he told me about that girl. She was in the city and still unmarried. He told him the name and place of the bank. He used to go to the same bank on many occasions in his spare time. Neither he could see her there nor dare to ask any employee of the bank about her. He used to await her at the roadside at the timing of closing bank, but he never could see her. There was always a burden on his head why should not she get married ?. Anybody would have married her as she was, smart, beautiful, educated, and employed. Anybody should be easily ready to marry her. That’s why he wanted to meet her. Then he was again transferred to another city in another state. He shifted himself with his family there. There was no communication among his friends. One day her friend incidentally met him in the city. She told him that she had left her job and joined the Ramakrishna mission in Chennai. Then he made fun with her that he was lucky not to fall in her love, otherwise, he would have a widower. Being a bachelor he would have searched for another life partner again. She smiled at him and said that it would have not happened if she might be with him. Then he decided to meet her again at any cost.

He Just went to meet his friend in Chennai. He was his school friend. For his mother’s sake, he left the senior college job of professor and went to Chennai. His friend was posted as a postgraduate teacher and on promotion became the principal of the reputed school. His friend showed him to school and introduced him to school colleagues. Being principal, he was very busy in his school. He suggested his friend visit the Ramakrishna mission trust which was stone’s throw. He was also interested to go there to see it. He thought that she would most likely meet him there, but it did not happen. Then he discussed casually the general matter with the manager of the trust during the meeting. He told the manager that one of his classmates joined his institution. He inquired about her. He told him that she was not there at all since his joining. He was cold feet as he failed in his mission.

He was free as retired from his job, but he could not trace her at all. There was a vacuum in his heart that was unknowingly created by her in the past. Absences make the heart grow fonder. He was actually hunting for knowing the real truth behind her joining the mission by scarifying the job and natural human relation for which she had more affinity during the young time. He wanted to know the fact about her unmarried life. There was unrest in his mind because of her strange decision. He had left all hopes to meet her in this span of life, but he dreamed that she should read this story about her before leaving this beautiful world.
