Chapter 2

Presently:

My eyes cannot forget the sight in front of me. He stood there in the middle of the room with the knife in his hands. His bloodshot eyes and fierce look turned me cold. A real psychopath!! He seemed so calmly looking here and there. I was bundled in a small corner behind the table holding my hands over my mouth when I was seeing him cut open the body and take out the organs. He was whistling softly humming the tune of some song as if nothing just happened. All this was a part of his game. He was not a human, probably some monster in the form of a person.

4 hours back:

My sister started calling me when I was near a petrol pump before entering Highway 16. The sound of loud music combined with the blast of thunderstorms made me almost deaf. Anyway, when I reached the petrol pump, the storm had stopped, but, the rains forced me to use the wiper constantly while I opened the window to talk to the person in the pump. In the meanwhile, I made my last phone call to my sister before I landed in the present situation.

"Hello, Sandhya? Where are you? Why did you not pick up my call? What is wrong with you? You said you will constantly keep in touch?"

"Didi.. please dont worry. I am taking enough petrol in the car so that I dont have to stop in between anywhere before I reach my destination. I was driving so I could not answer your call. I will call you as soon as I reach there."

Well, even though I told her not to worry. I had enough reasons to be worried about. Well, as in any spooky story the writer does not get very positive vibes about entering into a place that is not considered to be safe. My case was quite similar and I started to rush and of course!! my car skid and hit a nearby tree with a complete blackout.

When I got up (probably fell unconscious out of fear of death) I was only having a headache and sat up happy enough that I was alive with not much damage to me or my car. I tried to start it but in vain so I got down, locked my car and started walking down the road.

When I got down I found that my car was standing on the highway with no sign of any living beings around. The empty silent streets, the stopped rains and smell of wet soil, the moonlit sky with polka dots of stars gave me goosebumps. I looked into my phone, it was already 9 and to add to my sorrow failed to find the slightest sign of any network or any hope to contact anyone. So, here was I, in a part of the highway standing near a not so damaged car, thinking what could be my next move.

I started walking forward in a hope of finding something or rather someplace where at least I will get to network to call my sister. There was also a hope that I might get someplace to stay till I could contact someone to take me out of this creepy place. I was most worried that I could not reach Mr Shukla's place either.

While I was walking the moonlight streets made me feel a little better than before. The sky was looking so beautifully decked with stars surrounding the moon. After walking for approximately 10min I saw the sign of light a little away from me. A ray of hope to return back alive gripped my senses. I started walking towards the light. I drew close to it and a chill ran down my spine.

A few days ago I had read the news, " Three people went missing in the last 3 months from Highway 16. The police had reported that the last time they have contacted anyone was from a hotel on the highway. No trace has yet been found of any of them."

Yes, in front of me stood tall against the sky, a hotel, named Highway Halt.
